Which system?

So has anybody actually confirmed which AWD system is in gen 4.1 and 4.2?

Haldex? JTEKT?

There's been postings on other forums about the SHO specifically using Haldex, but nothing concrete, everything I read indicates Ford uses JTEKT.

2013 added "torque vectoring" to the SHO and they announced a new system for the Escape from JTEKT "to be phased in other Ford applications"

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Yeah, I saw those threads during my searches but unless someone can vouch for Mr. Ford engineer, I will remain skeptical.

I e-mailed JTEKT with some specific questions so we shall see what their response is. (If any, I emailed 10 days ago but they did say response times would be slow and to be patient)

Ok so here is a question for you, is the fluid in the RDU the same as what is in the diff? Curious as there is only just over one quart in the rear diff. Seems like a small amount for the whole unit. If it's independent how the heck can you change the fluid.

PTU fluid -18oz         75/140

RDU fluid-38.4oz      75/90

You have to siphon out the old fluid in the RDU through the fill port.

I'm not a hill billy but what are yall talking about?...siphon the fluid?...simply pull the cover from the rear end and seal it back up..that's how it's always been done...and if ur worried about leaks then ur a bad mechanic....clean surface with brake clean use rtv and good to go

It is 80/90 still can't get over its only just over 1L of fluid though for the whole RDU. Frequent changes are in order.

That's normal...mustangs are just shy of 2 quarts but they also have axle tubes that get partially filled with fluid. We have axles with cv joints so only the housing contains the oil....Any axle setup with cv joints the diffs and PTU's wont hold much fluid

My G35 had a rear diff, front diff, PTU and ATF for the transaxle. All but the transmission was a quart or less

I don't know about normal...
The SHO is a very heavy, powerful car, delivering alot of torque through its drivetrain. Under a quart seems sparse to me. But, really not too bad I suppose.

The fill quantity in the front unit is completely ridiculous, and definitely below "normal".

So I had a 2013 Escape 4wd and I can say the SHO has much more rear bias than the escape.

The rear is generally much more active in the SHO

I was unable to coax more that 50-50 out of it.(i tried really hard  ;))
