I have a 2013 taurus sho and I keep seeing people referring to the "noise maker" what does this piece do? Is it something we need?

It's on the left side of engine.  It directs intake noise towards the cabin.  No you don't need it.

If you decide to remove it you have to install a 2.5in hub and clamp to cover the hole, dont expect any kind of increased power or noise, replaced mine with a hotpipe from 4DRHTRD excellent quality and metal finish, compared to stock with rubber and plastic and prone for leaks overtime.

No, it's not needed.  It's a bit unsitely too.  I replaced mine when I did my entire hotpipe set.  I had the ones available through 4DR black ceramic coated.

True SW... Any color you want!  Both setups are also VTA.... I used OEM dual electric ECM controlled BOVs, but a TIAL spring controlled like SW has (in the pipe in discussion) can also be made to work if you retain the rear factory BOV to prevent CELs.... Of course if you only replace the one pipe you'll want to keep the factory BOVs. Bpd did his in white PC and they look awesome.... I know there are pics here somewhere showing the noisemaker removed.... Check the current safety for meth users thread I think.

I honestly did not notice a difference in sound with the SoundScreenTM glass that came with the stereo.
I won't bother with it then. I'm always looking for little things to do
