2013 SHO PP Or No PP

Hey everyone been going though a bunch of threads here the last couple of days and I have a few questions that I am sure you can answer. I am going to buy a 2013 SHO probably this Friday, a dealer about 70 miles from me has 3 new 2013's on the lot and wants to move them. If I buy the non PP I understand I can not turn off the TCS, is that correct. If I can not turn it off how does it do launching at the track? I see some 12 second passes have been made with the 2013 and it looks like some were the non PP. Second is it really worth the extra money for the PP, I am not looking to be the fastest SHO and will only do a tune, meth and tsat. I am more interested in a nice driving car that can run some 12 second passes at the track on occasion. I have been through modding the crap out a car recently and have no desire to go that crazy again. I am leaning more towards the non PP because it has more options that I want in the car but could be swayed towards the PP. Thanks

Oh yeah nice site here with lots of great info.

I sold my Non PP SHO for my PP 2013.  For my i chose the PP because its geared more towards those that want to use the car for performance more often.  With its faster gears and better protected powertrain because of cooling.

I race my SHO in AutoX and it will be on road course this year, so for that the PP was a better chose, especially if i wanted it to last longer.  The Non PP is geared torward those that want a car that can get up and go when they need it.  That is why you have to get a NonPP if you want Adaptive CC.

If you typically dd the car and cruise, but then hit the drag strip or highway runs every now and then.  I would say the Non-PP may be a better choice.

My general advice, given what you want the SHO for, would be the non PP option.

The suspension is a bit more forgiving if nothing else, and the conveniences for a dd are very good.  I went that way.  The gearing is primarily low end for start.  In the quater it probaly only gains about 0.1 sec over non PP.  The extra cooling in the PP is a plus, but you can add that.  With ACC and the collision avoidance system it will almost drive itself when you want it to.

I have never tried to turn off my TC or TV, but many tunes will program for varyng degrees of disabling these and the engine speed limiter.  See the Livernois Motorsports website for examples. This could account for the drag starts you see. If your going to tune and dd the car, then non PP should basically save you enough money to do the tune etc, and buy a lot of fuel.

Beware... the mod bug will bite you again though.

I would say a big factor is the price difference between the PP and non-PP. If the dealer is basically going throw in the PP for $500, I say take the plunge. It will also more than likely help you on resale on the vehicle as well.

I prefer my non PP, love the highway gearing. My car revs 2500 at 100mph. I can't turn off the stability control but I can shut off traction control. Throw in a tune from any of the venders listed on here and you have a very capable cruiser/weekend drag car.

I picked my 2013 SHO as non PP primarily because I wanted ACC and because I had been in talks with Tod at TCE about  his Wilwood Brake kits. TC can be turned off and the tranny cooler can be added later . I'm still working on a solution for Coilovers for the 13-14 platform that when available will offer much improved handling over either the PP or non PP SHO.

Really don't have much to add, save for I was in the same position a couple of weeks ago. I shopped the new market pretty heavily for a loaded +PP show. The +PP broke the bank for me (or, my wife rather), shopping new. However, when it came to pre-owned, the package options lose alot of their ability for the seller to levy price premiums. So, I feel like the +PP came as a bargain for me, and at only 8K miles on the odo.
My point is, I guess, like already mentioned above, it kind of comes down to cost. If it is something the dealer is asking a large premium for (ignoring sticker price), it may not be worth it, especially seeing as you're not looking to track the car.

**EDIT
Forgot to mention. I did drive both a new non PP SHO and a +PP SHO, both with 20" wheels, and I personally feel like the ride in the non PP was considerably more supple. Something to factor in, if that's a deal breaker for you.

I'm very happy with my non-PP.  I like the ACC.  I put on Eibachs and hopefully someday will do the brakes. I don't think I run it hard enough regularly to need an oil cooler but may do it anyway some day.  The gears might get you a tenth or two in the 1/4 and take away a mile or two per gal.

Thanks for the input everyone. I will test drive both and then decide I guess. If I was going with a 2014 I would just order it the way I want but these new 2013's on the lot are just to good a deal to pass up. As far as resale goes I am not concerned with that at all. I have 5 adult children and one of them usually buys my vehicle from me when I want a new one so I always give them a heck of a deal. I am currently driving a 2012 Escape Limited that my oldest daughter will be buying from me well below book value. The things we do for our kids.

I am heading to the dealer Friday and will probably be coming home with either the silver PP or the white non PP and that also depends on the weather being by Lake Erie. If I go with the PP and there is still a crap load of snow on the ground I will wait to get until next week when we are suppose to get a little warm up. I have about a 70 mile drive from the dealer that has these cars to my house. Them again if I do not care for either one I wil just return home and probably order a 2014 from my local dealership loaded the way I want it.

Like I said I am not looking for the fastest SHO just some 12 second passes on occacsion at the track and a nice riding car with a lot of creature comforts for my road trips. I run a lot of marathons and ultra marathons every year so I travel a bit to the races and really prefer to drive over flying so comfort is more what I am after in the car with some spirit when I want it.

Non pp for me.  Car in 13 edition has the bigger brakes standard and the ride is more than stiff.  I ran 12's at 1500 feet elevation on tune and panel k&n.  I see very little variance on track times between the two.

I am the new owner of a 2013 non PP Tri whatever the crap Ford calls it white. I'll be ordering the tuner, thermostat and plug for it tomorrow. It now has 127 miles on it from driving it home from the dealership. I opted more for the comfort than the additional performance of the PP. Although the PP was nice it did not have some of the options that I really wanted on it and those were more important to me than an extra tenth or two at the strip. I gave up chasing ET's a few years ago. Just want some 12's which I am sure a tune and meth will give me.

Thanks for all the input and info so far.

From what I have read here a CAI really does nothing for you. I have a friend with a Flex and he said his ET was slower after installing a cai and faster after taking it back off.

Congratulations!  Good Luck and Enjoy!  You should get into the 12's with just a tune and K&N panel (or very close like me! LOL). The meth will push you deeper into the 12's if you want to do that.
