2015 Ford Taurus SHO plugs gapped at 0.30" from factory

Was a loose 0.30" and I only pulled two plugs but that was enough for me.  Got a tuner coming, will be running 93 octane, 170 Tstat and 3 bar MAP.

After reading I was surprised that the stock plugs were already gapped at the 0.30"

Torrie likes the plugs gapped at 0.028, I believe.  Let's see what your datalogs show, if there's need to change the factory gap.  Looking forward to your reports from the field :)

I didn't check mine as I just had the dealer install them after I already purchased them, but I saw some 14 x sports were also factory gapped at .30

Lol

I can bring them down to 0.28 that is no problem. Will do that tomorrow.

I'd wait to hear a confirmation from Torrie first :)  He's the authority, don't want to step on his toes, so to speak :thumb:

Ok this makes me worried now. I am not sure what I should gap my plugs at when I change them today. Should I go .35 since I am stock or go with .30? I got the SP534's. This and the over-tightening of the plugs is my biggest concern at this point. I am paranoid lol.

The SP-534 usually come pregapped at 0.30-0.31,would not touch them at all for know, adjusting the plugs to often can sometimes damage the electrode which are very sensitive.

Tighten with your wrist only. I have had the plugs out of these ecoboost motors so many times I can't count and haven't broken one yet. I am going to leave them at .030 after emailing Torrie.

Your mpg will likely get a little hit, staying at 0.030 with a stock tune, that is all.  Running a little rich won't hurt anything.  Best to tighten with a torque wrench, but definitely don't wrestle them in.

Also never remove sparkplugs when the vehicle is hot,due to the heat the plug could break off while removing, make sure to let the car cool off.

I gapped mine to .035 and it feels nice and smooth. Will have to regap them once tuned but o well. Wish i seen the post about leaving them at 30 before i did them would have had less work to do in the future. I figured the car wouldnt run as smoothly if not gapped to .035.

It's ok, if the car is running well, you did good, and that's what matters.  When it comes time for a tune, just pop in a new set of plugs (whether OEM gapped at 0.030 or re-gapped to whatever the tuner recommends) and enjoy the tune!

mrp, welcome to the forum! You'll like it over here almost as much as Shawn's site. Let me know how that new tune works out and plans for the future.

Thanks!  Right now I am waiting on SCT to support my ECU. This is going to be the longest I have ever waited to tune a vehicle.......and it is not because I am not trying.
