2016 SHO engine

I have a bad feeling Ford will scrap the 3.5L option and replace it with the 2.7L in the new platform SHO.  It just seems too good to be true with a Taurus shedding 1000lbs with the 3.5-I would imagine once tuned a quarter mile pass would be in the low 12's possibly high 11's. I would be skeptical giving up my 3.5!

Of course they will, they have to to continue moving towards the looming EPA standards.

This is not a bad thing, the CGI block is light, bulletproof, and hopefully the internals will be beefy as well.

If it gets the dual injection setup 2.7's will be murdering the 3.5.

I say bring it!

The 2.7 will have 350 horses-15 less than the 3.5L. I guess it was wishful thinking hoping the 2016 3.5 would come with 400 ponies but you're right the new SHO's will be lighter and faster

I also hope they put an AWD system that can distribute power like the more sophisticated systems out there rather than what we have now, which leans toward the front wheels and sends limited power to the rear wheels.

Since there are a LOT of SHO owners who apparently don't know they have a performance car, Ford probably erred towards conservatism/safety with the front-wheel drive bias.  I WOULD like to see a full "0-100" spread in ability to assign drive power to the wheels (and torque vectoring) as needed, no question :) though that will definitely jack up the price.

Amen to That

Sounds like an upgrade to me. What the Taurus/SHO needs more than anything else is a weight loss diet.

How about an optional CF body... really helped the new FGT.

the 3.5 transverse is all but dead now, when ford switched to the extended cd4 platform that was the end, the 3.5L wont fit in a cd4, now the 2.7 will fit and would be fun if they went that route, last i heard its still up in the air if the North america is even going to get the next gen Taurus, something about only offering it in China because the NA sales the fusion beat it out something like 6 to 1

Ford's poor marketing in action... If you don't know about the SHO and look for it the only way you'll see it other than asking is to do the "build your own" on the Ford website.  Just when they get us excited by factory tuning it to 600hp for the new FGT too...  :-[

Lol! I'll bet that would break my bank.
But just think what  a difference 800-1000lbs might make!
