Deciding if I should pull my Airaid and go back with the stock air box and a k&n panel filter. Guess I need a push..

Try a torque 1/4 mile with airaid in and out and see what it does. I don't know how well they work on the Explorer Sport, just the Flex. I have mine in all the time, just switched back to stock to race until I built my fender mount one.

The ones on the Sport are exactly like the SHO. A torque 1/4 mile?

Download the torque app on your Android device, and get a bluetooth obd2 dongle. Total out of pocket as low as $20 for both.

It is my opinion that the AirAid SHO/Flex/Sport CAI would run cooler and be more efficient if one could fashion a pipe to draw air from in front of the DS tire.  One would cut a  4" hole in fender side of CAI box and attach pipe.  Looks great though!

Has anyone considered removing the weather stripping off the top of the box and in the back of the hood on top of the cowl? I would think that would allow more engine heat to escape by the windshield, and also some cool air would run on top of the air filter as well as through the factory opening.

My Flex  ran several degrees hotter IAT Temps with the AirAid kit for Flex/Sho in place.  Stock was cooler and my custom CAI had the coolest IAT temps.

The AirAid also maintained Heat Sink the longest of the 3.  Think the issue is that there is not enough air getting to the filter from the outside... That's why I think it needs a "cool pipe" added to the area in front of the DS tire.

My mks is faster without it.  No doubt.
Without the Airaid or weather strip?

Without the Airaid.  My best 0-60 numbers in slowest to fastest order are:

Airaid
Stock with K&N drop in
K&N Typhoon

Lots of guys (more knowledgable than me on these things)  will disagree on the Typhoon, but my car just seems to like it - much more so in colder temps.  I have not done any dynos, just G-Tech and MYCAL runs in as similar conditions as possible (ie. same runway, similar temp, similar weather/wind/etc)  Totally not a perfect science, but my seat of the pants dyno goes in the same order as well.

Dynos won't work to show cold air intakes, you'll always pick up more HP. It's the heat soak of the 1/4 mile run that causes the issues.

Lots of good info here and that's how we learn to make these monsters faster.. :-)

Do you have any pics of the typhoon intake?  Where did you buy it?

Anyone out there have IAT for the typhoon vs. airaid vs. stock?

I got it from autoanything.com.  I will try to snap a photo this weekend.  Honestly what I like the most about is the BOV sound and overall sound.  Might be a little noisy for some.
