ALCANTARA steering wheel fading

I purchased my 13 PP SHO brand new back on 8/13 with two miles on her, noticed  that the suede part of the steering wheel is showing some wear but no visible signs of any tear or anything in that dept, also have 31k on her with an extended 7 year platinum warranty, have an appt at the end of the month for an oil change and maybe i can check to see how feasible getting a new wheel is,has anyone acquired in getting a new one replaced.  Z

I was wondering if it was covered also. I bought mine used with about 43k and the wheel is pretty worn. Let us know what they say!

I have excellent relations with my dealer and quite honestly not sure if they will validate my concern but definetly its worth a try and hopefully they will address my concern knowing this will certainly be a factor in years to come, will keep you updated SHO-T1M3.  Z

I spoke with my service advisor today and they need to take a picture of the steering wheel and submit it to Ford to try and get it covered, will keep anyone interested in this topic updated next week.  Z

After 4k miles with my car I'm not sold on my PP wheel. I still think I like the nice quality leather ones better.  I too worry about it wearing/fading over time.

I just wanted to give a quick update on the worn out steering wheel, just came back from the dealer and my service advisor took a couple of pics of my Alcantara steering wheel which he submitted to Ford, and within a matter of minutes was (APPROVED)for a brand new steering wheel which will take roughly 5 business days to order and (luckily)is covered under 3yr/36 warranty, and its NOT COVERED under extended warranty.BTW JUST HIT 33K Today.hope this helps anyone with a PP SHO.Pics below were submitted to Ford.  Z    :thumb: :thumb: :)

Very nice.  I could have someone at a dealership smash my windshield and it probably wouldn't be covered.  I have horrible luck with warranty stuff.

I'm curious guys how much did you pay for your extended warranty? My car still has a bit more than a year to go before the factory expires and I am undecided if I should or not get it.

Mr. Z, I understand you have a good relationship with your dealer, but when you go in, do you put the stock tune back in? What did they say about your high flow cats?

I know I will mod, and most of the mechanical work is done by not shops, so I don't visit dealers at all, but I would want to have a piece of mind when it  comes  to electronics and obviously engine and trans... But I would not want to go through trouble off taking down pipes off and on....

I think the most important question to be answered is about extended warranty and its definetly a (must)when it comes down to these complicated systems which consists of an AWD along with a turbo setup, personally would not hesitate and get an extended warranty, personally have the platinum warranty and is top teir in its class, think of it this way,you could sell your flower wheels and still have enough leftover for a nice dinner.  Z

Sorry for the wait, not sure if you have an assigned service advisor but usually he or she is a fount of information in many key categories and in time you will be able to ascertain some info,a great question would be is Ford still tuning some of there cars, and how much is that xtra and proceed from there, hope this helps you in a wise judgement, just need to break the ice smooothly.Best of luck and keep us updated.  Z

Very wise approach Z, I appreciate the advice. I will definitely take this approach to get some info from the dealer. Per your expertise and experience, Is there a chance to negotiate with them on the price, or is the price they give me kind of set in stone so to say?

You can always cross-check online pricing from Flood Ford, Lombards, etc.  That can give you an edge in price negotiations at the dealership.

I just came back from the dealer with a new steering wheel covered under the 3yr-36 month warranty as mentioned above,it honestly does feel great in many aspects, the new one seems to have a more of a darker charcoal color though which is great, for anyone thats curious the process took about an hour for install, pics below as promised.  Z  ;)  BTW the correct part #is on the work order below as the parts are a bit confusing if your looking for a PP wheel.  Z

Nice that dealer has excellent service.  I've never been a fan of big window shade covers but I might get a towel or something to drape over my steering wheel when the car will sit in the sun for a bit.
