Another question about LMS vs Unleashed.

When I was at Milan a couple weeks ago there was a guy there with an unleashed 3-bar tune which he said got 18 psi boost with stock turbos. I'm at about 13.5 (sometimes it will spike to 15) with torque with my LMS 3-bar. So if the performance from both companies is about the same why is LMS running the same times with significantly less boost?

Company secret it is I think.

Rich
Secrets aside and going to basics. If LMS has 13.5 pounds and is running the proper air to fuel ratio; in order to make the same power at 18 pounds you would need to be running either super rich which I doubt with our fuel system, or super lean which is going to melt something right?

He was spraying meth or joshing you. There is no way these small snails will run 18 psi without throwing flames of hot air.

Were his tire pressures/fuel level/traction/launch rpms/etc optimized?

Stock turbos are capable of 18 psi, but hardly efficient beyond 14-15 psi.  So sure you can hit those boost levels, but it really isn't very helpful (without ethanol or methanol as Joseph pointed out).  F150s are a different story, differnt turbos.  Anyway, we don't know the objective or the amount of finetuning this tune has/had.  We'd need dyno numbers, top speed numbers all that fun stuff to do a full comparo.

Different approaches to tuning is the answer. Ambient conditions play a large part as these are torque based ecus.  I see more boost in the summer than the winter but 18-20 peak isn't out of the ordinary. Keep in mind I have e-85 helping to cool the charge in the cylinder.

I see spikes from 18-22psi on my LMS stage 5 meth tune. But as for constant pressure more like 14-15psi. Anyone claiming to run a constant 18psi is probably loosing power. Just blowing a lot of hot air.

You guys are forgetting about the ability to tune with lower boost but more timing or more boost with less timing. :)

It isn't like an ancient Chinese secret or anything it is simply knowing the platform more intimately than pretty much anyone else out on the planet. We know the "sweet spot" for the 3.5 especially. It just took our tuner a ton of seat time with his laptop and a dyno to finally get enough tinkering done to find that range where the 3.5 engine is performing at it's peak. Most places do not have the skill, desire or resources to preform some of the tasks that we do.
