Blue "SHO" lights on door handles.

What are these lights called?  Mine turn on and off with the ambient lighting control switch but do not change color like the inside lights.  I can't find a picture of them anywhere.  I assumed they were factory but now I am not so sure.  Mine also has the blue light in the Taurus insert right ahead of the front doors.  Is that also factory?  If it is factory, what package is this included in?

Looking at your sig, you have a 2012, correct?

If so, and you're saying the lights are not changing color(s) at all, you may have bad LED's.

Although not a terribly common problem, there are some, including myself, who have had to replace the entire loom.

For me, I think my red, and the pink color burnt out.

I believe former EBPF member crash712us authored a tutorial "How-To" write up on its' replacement, so you may want to check that section accordingly. It is very detailed and Chris did an exemplary job of even explaining how to remove the door panel in order to access the loom for replacement.

Good luck.

Yes, 2012.  So, would you pull someone over for having improper blue lighting on their car? LOL I explained to him that it was from the factory that way from FoMoCo.  He then told me that he's sees a lot of these "SHOWS" (boy I really hate that) and he's never seen it before.  I showed him the button and demonstrated it to him.  I just assumed that the interior lighting turned colors but the outside ones stayed blue or turned off only.  He then gave me a written warning (citing the wrong statute) and told me that puts me in the system and the next time I'd get a ticket for it blah blah blah.

I believe this may be the one he was actually referring to.  Subd. 4

If it is blue or red illumination on the exterior of the vehicle (and not the taillights - those are allowed to be red) then it is technically illegal unless the vehicle is an emergency vehicle. Pictures may help this thread, so that we have a better idea what you are talking about on the exterior. To my knowledge, there is no stock exterior SHO illumination, other than the SHO label (or Taurus depending on year/package) within the headlight. The side emblems are not illuminated from the factory, nor anywhere else on the exterior that I can recall.

Wait are you saying your SHO exterior fender badges are blue?  That definitely isn't stock.  Someone modified it and I assume that would be what he pulled you over for.  I live in MN as well and yes blue lights on the outside of the car are a no go...

Yes, the Taurus badge between the front door and the front fender is illuminated blue.  There is also a "SHO" logo that is on the door handle that illuminates blue.  You can't see anything when it isn't lit up, it's behind the paint.  The lettering for that is about a 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" tall.  I assumed it was all factory along with the ambient lighting on the inside.  I'll get a pic when I leave work.  If it's not factory, what is bpd1151 talking about then?  Maybe he thought I was talking about the inside door handles.  I should have been more clear.

No blue lighting on the exterior from the factory.  I have not seen/heard of the door handles being backlit  with SHO either.

Pictures of the lighting and the switch when you get a chance tonight would be helpful.

There is no separate switch for them.  They turn on and off with the ambient lighting.  I guess that's why I thought they were factory.

Cool, look forward to seeing pictures of the lighting when you get a chance.

Yea, if It's exterior, that is certainly NOT factory, as others have stated.

Blue and/or red, whether solid/static,.or flashing/pulsing etc. Is a no-no in most all States In am aware of, and is reserved for Police/Fire use exclusively.

I didn't look at the badge very close yet due to the poor lighting but the door handle looks like any other door handle.  When the light is off you'd never know it's there.  It's behind the paint.  How is this done?  It looks a lot better in the dark without all of the lights in the parking lot reflecting off of the car.  My wife teases me about it so please keep my feelings in mind when you comment on it. ;D

damn that is exactly what i was wanting to do with the fender emblem actually. except i would use the 13+ "SHO" ones and light them red. however, i was going to wire them into an accessory wire so it only lit up when you open the doors or unlock the car. that's how i have my grille lights wired as well. if you can find where the power wire to those go you could simply just move it to an accessory wire.

id love to see the back side of that taurus emblem to see how it was made translucent. if you ever take it off make sure to take some pics.
i think it looks great tho!

Definitely not stock. Do you leave your ambient lighting on while driving? If so, since you say its wired into that, you will need to turn off ambient lighting for the time being. I would recommend re-wiring it to a separate switch Or the door unlock circuit rather than leaving it as is. Due to them being aftermarket, I am pretty sure they do not color change. I once saw a similar kit for the emblem from china, but it was pretty expensive and only white/amber.

No matter what you do, the officer was in the right, those are definitely NOT stock, and due to the color not legal. If you dig into the wiring, there MAY be wire that you could connect for a different color (sometimes aftermarket lighting is set up like that). If this is the case you could leave it as is, just swap to the alternate color (white/amber). otherwise, you need to rewire it ASAP.

As for the warning, re-wire it before you get into more trouble. There is a chance if you fix it, that you can go talk to someone at the courthouse and get the warning off of your record as you have fixed the issue.

Why not just complete the set!  LOL.  Z  :policeman: :policeman:

So....my 2012 SHO has smooth front door handles and the rear door handles have a long groove on the face of them that's nearly the same length as the handles.  My wife's 2014 SEL has smooth handles front and rear.  Just curious what an 2012 SHO is supposed to have for handles.

It appears the previous owner also painted the black plastic on the lower section of the side mirrors and the lower skirt of the car.  It's hard to tell for sure from your profile pic.  Somebody put some work into your car to make it one off.  I think it looks sweet, just need to find a way to switch them on and off or make them a different color to abide by the laws.

As far as I am aware there are no differences in body panels/ mirrors / door handles between a sho and a regular Taurus?

That does look pretty sweet actually aside from the issue with color.  I am with the other guys, see if you can rewire it to either a separate switch, or maybe add a relay and piggyback it on the courtesy lighting circuit.

the handles on my '10 have a groove in all as i put a 1/8" black stripe in each. something hardly anybody notices when i show my car. i had seen before somebody had light the sho on the fender badge of a '13+ & looked sweet. yours is definitely custom & very cool. bpd is right about outside lighting, very few colors are legal if car is moving. of course if you know the right people wink, wink you can run under car lighting & not get a ticket.
