Dealer is helping me with tail light chrome issue

After having another set of tails lose their chrome I went to the dealer to see what they could do. My bumper to bumper warranty has expired so I knew that I wasn't going to get another set for free so I made them an offer to meet them half way on list price for a set of SEL tails which the agreed upon.

Red tails will be in tomorrow  :band:

FYI FORD has now attributed the chrome flaking off to high pressure water hoses.... not manufacturing defect lol whatever makes you sleep at night

Way to go FT... Their action helps restore my faith in dealers....  They probably have a lot of trouble if you can wash it off.  LOL

Please post pictures!  I would like to see how they look on black as opposed to how they look on my white.

I'm gonna wait till spring and I have a chance to smoke them out  ...either painted or LaminX tail tint

Coincidentally I followed a black SEL home from the dealer .... red tails look good for sure

They look good, but mine started flaking and had never seen a high pressure wash, it had only ever been hand washed.  I'm still working on fixing the chrome issue on a set of tails I got from DJE 624, but it is going slower then expected.  I will report as soon as I have something to report.

I'm gonna have mine fixed too and sell them maybe

Waiting with baited breath to see your masterpiece!

I had both tail lights and the 2 trunk pieces replaced under warranty on our 12 SHO. The dealer told me it was from washing the wrong way with either chemicals or brushes. What a joke as it's a KNOWN problem.

interesting enough... no chrome on them in the pic ... Is the dealer getting you a set w/o the chrome trim?

Yes I am ditching chrome trim and going with the SEL red trim design....weirdly enough those cost more than the chrome SHO tails

...And now we understand why the chrome comes off.... I think.  :hmmm:  LOL

The ones without the chrome will be easier to wrap or paint.

I assume the dealer is installing?... be sure they get the spear right!

It's attached to the tail light and the paint on the trunk lid with 3M dbl sided tape.  It's just tricky... If you have a reverse camera the spear is one piece including the camera housing.  So it could get pricey if it gets bent or broken.

On the 10-12,  Soak the spear where it goes over the light fixture.  Then use a plastic putty knife to separate.  Inside the trunk, under the liner you will find one clip on each end.  You can push out on these clips to help separate but you don't need to push too hard or too far.  Then the light fixture will slip out to the side and up off the lid. (No camera on these.)

Yes they do. If I get half a chance I'm gonna see how the look on Steel Blue. As to the Ford excuse that high pressure wash causes the chrome to peel.....I guess we are lucky that that high pressure wash is not removing our paint and other chrome. It just picks on the tails. Imagine that!

I'll bet they'd look really good on the blue Larry.  I think they would look better on any color.  IMO, sporty cars like the SHO shouldn't have had the gaudy chrome around the tails to begin with.
