Exhaust tips black in days

Anybody else have this issue?  I know they all turn black after a while, but damn.  These suckers are jet black within 2-3 days.  Am I running pig rich?

Car's generally run rich from the factory. It doesn't help the matter having a DI based platform either.

If I lay on my throttle enough to call for the Methanol to spray, I notice my tips getting blacker than usual, and quicker.

A partial sign to me that the meth is cleaning all of that built up carbon crap from the internals.

I have caught a little "Ford Gremlin" outside my home after midnight spray painting my tips black...  Maybe some of you have seen him too!

I cleaned mine this weekend. I have a set of Wheel Whooles that are normally used to clean your wheels with...the biggest one is just the right size to fit into the pipe and clean it out.

I leave it black, adds character.

Sent from a mobile, I think.

I only get a little black on the stock tip where it rolls around.  Last thing I wipe when I dry her off.

+1

It took me an hour to clean my Corsa tips after 20k miles. Never again.

Does "never again" mean your not ever going to clean them again or not wait that long?  I've found that using Adam's Polishes Metal Polish #1 and followed with #2 really helps keep the tips looking great and after a few applications, it seems that they stay cleaner.  But then again, I go over mine at least twice a week with Quick Detailer....

Ill clean the outsides but I'm not worried about getting up in the beveled insides. It's my daily driver, about to turn a year old with 25k miles. I don't get too anal anymore on stuff like that.

I have to clean my Borla inside really only once per week but don't run with any tune. Started with NEVR Dull, but it's a pain in the but. Now just use Armourall on an old sock. Works great & regular mist on outside. To leave that chrome black would be terrible. I'm in no way a mechanic but sounds like you're running rich.

I don't clean the inside that often because you can only reach a very small amount of the tip because the exhaust pipe extends almost to the roll in the edge of the tip. But I do clean what I can get at bi-monthly.

mark:
mine are same way i can only reach in so far & could probably do mine less often but am pretty anal about keeping them clean, but my hands aren't that big so can stick my whole hand in it & rotate the sock & then they are spotless. love the chrome & the borla ones have their name on them so keep them real clean. I agree w/Mark if you do them more often each time takes less time & like dave, final item to clean when cleaning her up

Scott has a big problem with sticking **** in black holes.

His detail cart is an even bigger scare.
