gapping spark plugs

what tools or techniques are people using to gap there spark plugs without touching the electrode?  I don't have gapping pliers on hand just basic hand tools  and I don't want to gouge the ground strap with pliers or anything.
TIA!!

I would just use a plain ole feeler gauge but make sure it will indeed measure lower plug gaps .  Z

Same exact procedure for me Hawkeye!

Years ago I broke the tip of an iridium plug using the standard gapper pictured above.  I was probably just careless, but I don't want to be stuck trying to find a replacement locally on a weekend again.

I use one of these to adjust the gap, but I use a feeler gauge to check the gap:

^that was exactly my plan.i have that tool to adjust the gap and feeler to measure. problem is the metal on that tool is so weak it bends before the ground strap does!! guess I just need to find a better quality tool and I should be set. crappy ass advance auto tools  :curse:
thanks for the posts guys
