Grill install with custom LED paintjob

Thought I would share my TommyZ/mobsteel install and a different LED bezel look.

Thanks to the how to on the bumper removal, it took me and a friend about 4 hours to do the grill swap. I ended up breaking some of those lovely plastic fasteners but finding replacements was easy at the parts store.

I did not like the mesh that the grill came with so I found a diamond pattern, black aluminum mesh sheet on Amazon for $40.

The LED bezels I had painted the inside only, leaving the perimeter untouched. I had them use the same paint that the car is instead of plain black. Having left the bottom grill stock, it matches perfectly. Enjoy!

Like bpd, I am wondering why you didn't do th lower grill while the front clip was off... ACC?
 
When I tackled this project I actually set out to match the upper grill with the stock lower and  LED bezels as best I could. Call me crazy but I've always liked the lower grill. Having said that I can always go back and install the matching lower, though a pain I know, I just went for it!

And a big thanks Bpd, for the how to. Very well done.
 
I like the original lower also. With upper done, I bet a gloss black paint job on the bottom would be a nice fit/match. My lower piece from Tommy Designs fit horrible, I had to roto-zip the majority of the bottom slots to match up clips.

Looks good though and congrats on the DIY project. BPD'S  great how to was my blueprint also.

SHOnU, you are a genius I hadn't thought about painting the lower to match!  I will get a quote for that soon and likely do it. I luckily found a great painter who has a Shop for side jobs. Speaking of not fitting quite right, I had to dremel some of the upper too to nudge it in place. The clips didn't come with mine either so had to get some from Fastenal.

And not afraid to admit I would have been lost without the how to haha.
 
Yea I agree, paint that lower, OEM grill & things will be a more harmonious presentation overall.

I wonder if you purchased an upper OEM grill (like from a '13 P.I. model) if you could cut out the honeycomb material & reinstall it into your new aftermarket upper??

How to definitely saved some time and head scratching. On the upper grille, the only issue I had was with the 2 upper holes on the very ends.

Love the look of it and don't like to complain about stuff. But there could definitely be some upgrades in quality and fitment on these I think.
 
Bpd I have considered buying an oem from 2013 up, but kinda cheaped out on the mesh. I think for now painting the lower is the way to go. Then I can explore upgrading the mesh. What would be nice is the cop car honeycomb, but God forbid someone makes that stuff.

I thought the design could have been tweaked too, but like you I don't really have any complaints, in ok with it.
 
If you do for some reason have it apart again (be a little cheaper to paint), check the alignment of lower Tommy grille for me please. Just wondering if they are all off or if it was just mine.
