My nissan 300zx build (still in progress)

SHO n GO

New member
Hey guys, just figured id post up where all my money i want to spend on my SHO goes. Its a 1990 nissan 300zx Twin Turbo.
Been rebuilding and working on this for the past 9 years. Started its life as a boring non turbo auto car. Saved up and purchased a second twin turbo car and rebuilt the motor, bigger turbos, injectors, turbo back exhuast, upgraded side mounts, tuned ecu all the go fast goodies. Shooting for around 500 whp. Pulled the motor motor and resprayed the engine bay. Placed both cars next to eachother and swapped the motor into my baby. Runs and drives great. Still sourcing out a new front bumper, wheels n tires, suspension. On to the pictures!!

A truly SHOw quality car, great color, lines & wheels.  Did you make any changes to the trans or are you still working on it?  Any soundclips of the build so far?

Dreamed of this car when I was in high school. All the other guys wanted 5.0L Stangs, TA's and Camaro's. I wanted boosted imports, Talons, Z's and Stealths .... I knew back then boost was the future  :drive:

very Nice.  I remember my '75 240... No boost, but early electronic fuel injection

your 75 would've been a 280Z.  First year of FI.

I had a 73 240z with a 1990 5.0 automatic swap.  Ran decent

My dad was the original owner of a 78 280z, which I sold a few years ago.  Should've kept it and done an LS swap.  0 rust car.

Also owned a 1990 silver 300zx 5spd back in 1990-1993.  Turbo rear spoiler and wheels. Great car.  Still look at these today.

OP great car, let us know what it runs.

I had an 87 300zx turbo. Ive always loved these cars. They where ahead of there time when it came to performance, function, and style. The 350 and 370z just dosn't do it for me like the 240,280, and 300. I would also love to find an old 510.

Agreed.  I think the 90-96 300zx, where the best of the Z cars.

I had a dark red 5 speed 1990 300ZX TT.  Bought in 2002 with 54k orig miles. Completely unmolested. Sold in 2006 or so.  It was a blast (4 wheel steering, stick, RWD, 300 HP, light) ....how could it not be fun.....but I was only putting on about 500 miles a year and was offered considerably more than I paid for it.

Your right of course... also was 2+2.... great car.  Drove it a few thousand a year.. it was my fun car (other than my charger)...until '99 when I sold it.

Thanks for all the Z love guys!! I have a huge soft spot for Z cars. It was the first car i bought and has been my labor of love for about 9 years now. I also had a 350z for a while ill dig up a picture of it too. It has been off the road for the past 4 years undergoing its heart transplant. In that time my soon to be wife and i got engaged, we purchased our first home! And i picked up the SHO. So the car parts fund has been about the size of a gnats fart for the last few years. Its time to start putting on the finishing touches to the Z now! Ordered up my new front bumper yesterday. The non turbo one i had dosent have the proper areo to get air to the side mount intercoolers. Next on the list is get all new vaccume lines ran, install boost controller, and boost and oil pressure guages. As for the tranny all i have done is the auto to 5spd swap when i swapped motors. It was pretty easy because i had the car to take everything out of right next to it. I think i have a video of the first start up ill try putting on here. Will keep you guys posted!!

I hope the link works

Looks and sounds great!  High mileage motor out of the 350z?  The body looks pretty straight.  Hard to believe over a decade since its' introduction.

The silver 350 is just another z car ive had, the motor that went into my z was from a 91 twin turbo 300zx with 75k on it but a fresh rebuild all new seals, rods, and pistons...ect with about 8k now went into my 300zx. its very straight and rust free, but will definetly need a few smal door dings pulled out and paint once its all together to be perfect.

That was my dream car back in high school.  Really timeless styling.  I friend of mine had a 94 twin turbo back in Chicago all suped up.  He was making 450 whp back in the mid-nineties.  Thanks for sharing.

Love it. I had a NA model about 10 years ago, and it ran 13.8 at 103 with a LOT of mods lol Still one of my most favorite cars ive ever owned, and I think im on number 31 now.

That was quick NA.  I had an axle back, CAI, and a Dinan computer.  14.0 @ 100.
