Noob from OK

Just wanting to chime in and say hi from Oklahoma. I will be a new owner of a 2013 Tuxedo Black SHO non-PP come this Friday 11/21. Previously driving an 06 G35 (relatively stock), got bored with it and needed a "family car".

Immediate plans are: downpipe, CAI, tune, thermostat, 3bar, 3rd cat delete and possibly some magnaflow muffs. Ordering those soon as I get final paperwork for delivery of my new ride.

Eventual Plans: replace hot pipes, cat-back kit, meth kit and misc visual tweaks.

Other past cars include: 504WHP AWD 1G Eclipse(Farmboy Ricer), 320WHP 89 CRX (Cut my tuner teeth here), 70 Chevelle (Malibu 2D, Not SS), 96 Impala SS (mostly show and not so much go), and about 15 other "not so cool" vehicles. Long time modder and hacker.

I will say the 6th gen SHO is something unlike any other boosted vehicle I have jacked with. Lots of forgiveness with these cars but sadly a small aftermarket. Coming from the DSM world where EVERYTHING BREAKS and EVERYTHING BREAKS EVERYTHING ELSE, it's kind of odd that some of that knowledge doesn't transfer over- IE intercoolers, piping, exhaust, missing fuel pumps and stand alone management systems. I get it though, the car is still relatively "young" in terms of modding.

Thanks! Lots of good info laying around this site to digest. Anything a new SHO owner should know right off the bat? Any MUST READ type threads? Already looked up the maintenance schedule (link at bottom could figure out inline hyperlink), but is there anything particular to the ecoboost that may not be listed on the Ford site? The 30K and 40K recommended maintenance seems relatively light. What is the "major maintenance" point on the SHO and what is it?

Greetings!!!

Great list of previous rides you have there. Bring on the pics as we all love us some eye candy.

As for immediate items or checks. I'd highly suggest a 3m bra for the front as the paint isn't very strong up there IMO. Quite a few of us have changed our PTU fluid to find a not so pleasant sludge factor in the tiny thing.

Glad to have you aboard and keep us posted on the progress.

Welcome!

You'll love the SHO, it's a great luxury/sports boat.  I also love that it's a rare car, I can go a month without seeing another one in my area.

The SHO can easily be a mid 12 second car.  The guys who want to go faster end up getting disappointed and moving on to other cars.  A number of guys are deep into the 12's with meth, that's about it without going too crazy.  So, just be content with a land yacht that can do mid 12's all day long and you'll be just fine :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and good starter info. I've attached some photos of my past cars, miss them all in their own way. Some died, some were sold but fortunately none were ever stolen. There will be more pics to come as time passes but don't want to flood the forum ;)

Hopefully the new SHO is ready for pickup tomorrow night and I can update with "day 1" photos. +1 on the rare comment, I had a heck of a time finding one in Oklahoma that fit my needs. In fact, so much of a problem the car I purchased came up from Louisiana.

Again, thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I'll fit right in around here (from what I've seen). Mid 12's is good enough for me at this time of my life. Now talk to me in about 30 when I retire and the kids are gone, then it'll be a different story.

Adding some "before" pics to the thread. This is what it looked liek this morning before tint and deleting the chrome. More pics to come tmw morning after it's light with it "murdered" (blacked) out. Going 5% tint all around, headlamps and tails (leaving reverse uncovered) in 35% tint and gloss black vinyl over anything chrome (except SHO side badge).

Eventually going to do something similar to the GCS SHO from Sema (http://www.autoevolution.com/news/2012-sema-2013-ford-taurus-sho-by-cgs-motorsports-live-photos-51237.html) with the hood but it'll take some designing since my car is already black and I don't want it to look strange.

Sadly enough, had my collision system start barking at me about unable to to use the front radar. Gotta take it back to the dealer for warranty work and it's <1 week old. Guess I'm glad to knock it out now and not later. Hopefully it's something small...

On a happy note- "go fast" parts were ordered last night from Mr. McPhail of Unleashed. Now I get to play the waiting game..

I picked up a whole mess of stuff- X4 tuner, cat less DP (I'm in OK with no inspections), cooler plugs, stat, 3bar, airaid and stage 2 meth kit. I also plan on sourcing an aux oil and trans cooler and slapping it on for peace of mind. Found out the corner store by me (literally 300 yards away) has 5 gallon meth barrels for sale. I live down the road from a drag strip so it makes sense- it's listed as "race fuel". I haven't priced them yet. Maybe I'll go later today?

Edit- right when I walked out of my office the kid wanted some Dorritos so I used it as an excuse to go up there. The attendant wasn't the normal guy and had no idea how much they were.. He also told me they didn't have it in stock yet, but should have it arriving this week. I did snap some pics and get a URL for everyone. Looks like you can buy and they deliver it to you similar to the propane kiosks at convenience stores. Not sure if this stuff is locally distributed or mail-order though? Maybe this could help you guys that have a heck of a time finding the stuff- become resellers or order direct?

Thanks everyone for the compliments, info and such. I couldn't/wouldn't have done it without the info here. It also helps that the other half loves the car as much as I do.....it helps even more that she likes to go fast ;D I joke with her and tell her she'll have the baddest "grocery getter" around.

I promised pics this morning but sadly I was called yesterday evening and told the tint and stuff wasn't done yet. He did send progress pictures though so I'll share those with you now.

My 2013 Tuxedo Black SHO, tint at 5% with vinyl over the chrome and smoked tail lights. Enjoy!
