Odd engine noise under part throttle

I am starting to consistently hear an odd almost fluttering noise in part throttle situations.  It seems to be most obvious when the engine isn't fully warmed up yet.  The noise is hard to describe and sometimes it is louder than others but I can't pinpoint the exact situation to cause it to be louder.  Anyone else heard something similar and should I take it to the dealer?  It is a 2014 SHO PP with about 5000 miles and stock for now.

Probably a BOV sound, shouldn't have it if you are stock.  Check turbo piping to see if it is clamped securely.

That's what I thought too but didn't know if the BOV just sounded like crap on this car or not.  I have had several forced induction cars and none that ever sounded like that so something isn't right.  Will check all the pipes and vacuum lines this weekend to make sure.

Fluttering description makes me think air leak also.

Any kind of metal or rattle type noise associated with it too? Heat shield loose as it heats?

Did you have your vehicle at the dealer for oil change? if so check the bottom belly cover to see if all four screws are tight,a loose screw can cause a rattle especially when the car is cold.

The noise is hard to describe, sometimes it sounds like a flutter which makes sense for an air leak or malfunctioning BOV, other times it sounds more like a rattle.  Trying to remember if I noticed it at all before my oil change at 3000 miles or not.  Either way, will check both this weekend.

The high pressure fuel pump will make some noise and can almost sound like a flutter under some conditions.  Can you duplicate the noise when in Park with the hood open and someone applying light throttle?  That might help you pinpoint the noise.

Took the car in finally for this and my brake problem.  Tech couldn't fix this issue either.  He was at least able to hear it during full throttle though.  The problem is it doesn't do it when he can look at anything(in the service stall) and there were no codes or anything else out of the ordinary.  He said the noise was only slight and since he can't find the source then it wasn't a problem.  They told me it will have to get worse before they will fix it.

I was already annoyed with their answer on the brakes so decided to wait until another day to take a tech along for a ride.

I guess at least they fixed my passenger sun visor rattle... the only issue I had that wasn't mechanical.

Same exact issue where I initially thought I had bad gas and Ford did a fuel system clean. I thought I could have been pinging or spark knock, but I always use premium from high volume "fresh" fuel stops. No idea, but it is in my logs and the service adviser assured me if a catastrophic issue occurs after warranty around August they will work with me as they have in the past. I wish I could shed some light, but if I do. I will keep you posted. There were no codes, and the knock sensor tested ok. My next strategy will be to run the new Pennzoil natural gas full synthetic oil with a thicker viscosity and see if it helps. Mine is a 2011 PP in the interest of full disclosure.

Found this GM TSB related to engine "flutter" and it points to the camshaft position sensor connector in their case:

May or may not be related, but points to the possibility of cam phaser or timing belt involvement, which are known trouble areas for the 3.5 EB.

I ran 100 octane unleaded Sunoco 50%, and 93 octane 50%, the noise seems to have ceased weather through happenstance, or if I am getting pinging even though Ford says no knock or other codes are detected. Its worth a try if they have it in your area.
