You know I'm more of a traditionalist with this SHO.  No interest in lowering car nor making the exhaust louder than stock.  Main reason I do not enjoy curbing the front end pulling out of parking lots etc.  Loud v6's are not my cup of tea.  I would consider catless downpipes only if they don't create to much noise...just for performance.

So a methanol injection and turbo upgrades with custom tuning will be in my future.  A low 12 second SHO would be more than I would expect from a heavy weight 4300 pounder.  I will save going faster for another project platform with v8 turbo/supercharged setup and about 3000 curb weight.  ;D
The PPE downpipes with cats are QUIET and make good gains. People with catless have said that you can start hearing the VVT system at mid throttle moving, I can't hear anything other than feel the additional power. :)

Turbos and meth are a great upgrade, I'd also look at brakes if you're going to be in the low 12's. :)
One option would be the boost activated cutout I had on my Flex, quiet 99% of the time, loud/more power when/if you want it.

Yeah, I have been thinking about having a custom exhaust fabbed up here sometime soon. I don't want it too loud either, I posted in another thread an idea to have an h-pipe fabbed to stock piping, then replacing the mufflers with Magnaflow / Dynomax 14 inchers. It is a cheap setup that will at least allow me to hear the engine... using the paddles has been difficult, as it is hard to gauge the RPM's.

No lowering for me either, in Colorado we need the clearance, haha. I already scrape the front air dam on my driveway.

I have the exact same problem, if I pull out of the driveway, I scrap, but not if I back out...strange.
Also, I have thought about an aftermarket exhaust, but so far, it seems like the real gains come from the new downpipes, and I believe that the new downpipes require removal of the lower engine cover...I have not seen anyone comment on this, other then those with the Livernois downpipes, which seemed to result in some hood shaking (at speed) with the lower cover off.  I too, don't want an exhaust that is loud, and I have not heard any of the aftermarket systems in person to hear the sound...I know I don't want mine to sound like some of the systems I've heard in other 4/6 cylinder cars.

I hear ya, I have not been happy with the sound of most exhaust setups for the SHO. It is almost a tad "diesely" and rough. I am hoping my custom idea would produce a nice tone but nothing too loud and raspy. It was so easy on my flat-4 WRX and my V8's.

I have the LMS catted downpipes and my lower cover is still on..

I have PPE Catted Downpipes, H & R's and 2" smaller diameter tires and my engine lower cover is on.  I only scrape on my rear flanges of my mid-pipe mod, and then very infrequently.

YES BRAKES were my latest MOD. POWERSTOP FROM AUTOANYTING FOR $410.00 ROTOR AND PADS ALL THE WAY ROUND.http://www.autoanything.com/brakes/61A5870A0A0.aspx

My brakes are more than enough on my 2013.  Adding maybe another 5-7 mph on my trap speed wont phase these big boyz.  Unless I try high speed stops with 3 extra 300 pound people in the car...lol.  ;)

Eibach springs and 8mm wheel spacers.

Too bigga spacers... Notta nuf  Thread!!!!

I run 5/16" spacers up front (8mm), and 7/16" (11.1x mm) out back... stock studs with plenty of bite. Got 6 full turns on rear lug before I couldn't turn it with my fingers anymore.

And my next mods are o/r downpipes and accompanying tune... then prob 2013 mustang hood vents, and brakes.

Good Luck!    Remember, if you cause an accident after those kind of mods you could be in big.....

My wife lost a front wheel years ago, when the Corvette Knock-Off wheels weren't tightened properly by a GM dealer.  Luckily she was rounding a curve in the direction of the lost wheel.

I can't tell you how many rollovers (many resulting in multiple deaths) I have seen on I-75 in FL when one blows a rear tire.  Imagine what would happen if you lost the entire wheel at say 75 mph..

When you don't use spacers, there is friction between the wheel and the hub that is created by 100 lbs of torque or more on the lug nuts.  Most of the spacers I have seen and used are designed to be used on many bolt patterns, and can move around under large torque loads.  So.. you have a piece of metal that can move around between the wheel and the hub.  When that happens and the wheel no longer has any grip on the hub, you are creating a great deal of torque ( stress, pressure, etc) on those lug bolts when you are sending 400-500 lbs of torque thru the drive train.  Perhaps this may explain it better... I had a friend with his GTO that had maybe 400 lbs torque, who saw his Drag Radials move on his rims about 2 inches due to his launching technique with a 3400 stall.  The lug bolts would be subject to even more torque due to the smaller radius of their bolt pattern.

Personally, I would rather be safe.

I'm considering T-Stat, 3-Bar and LMS Xv1.  Don't know when yet.  Also, maybe 1/4" wheel spacers.  Need to pull a lug nut and see how much thread I have.

I have never used a torque wrench on lug nuts.  I just lean on the wrench as it snugs up w/o really cranking hard.  Never had a problem.

Dave, I think 1/4" spacers are going kinda thick...they are like 6-7mm, I don't think I would go more then 3mm.  And as far as a torque wrench, I always use one on the wheels, a lot of my friends make fun of me, but it's sure nice knowing the wheels are torqued to the proper specs.

+1 on torque wrench. I have had too many warped rotors when I was younger. Tightening the crap outta my wheels...Cuz you know, don't want them to fall off or anything.

I suppose you guys are right.  I just snug them up pretty good w/o cranking too hard.  Mark, you are right.  I just checked a lug and I don't feel comfortable giving up a 1/4".  That's like 1/3 of the thread inside the nut.
