Rear "Radar" sensors malfunctioning

I have an error on my dash. Says the Rear sensors are not working. Happened 15 hours after I bought the car. Carfax was totally clean and such.

I took it back immediately the next day. Showed them so they could not deny it in case it went away.

I am just posting this as it goes into the shop tomorrow to get it fixed. I will post the results when I get them. Then others might have a simpler solution.

You mean the Rear Park Aid sensors?  Usually just a problem with wiring connectors getting dirty or waterlogged.  Now if there is a history of collision, that could be another ballgame altogether.

It could be just some wax buildup around the "sensors" especially if you just purchased the vehicle, the dealer sometimes give's it a quick Detail prior to Delivery.
They need to be clean in order to function properly. Z

100% second this! Had this happen to me....

Yes rear park aid sensors. I got the call today from Ford Service. Its the Sending unit for the whole rear parking aid array. They ordered one and said I would have my car tomorrow evening. So I politely asked. Did you take one off another car and test to see if its bad? No. We trust what the computer says. I think my car will be there on Wednesday.

I finally got the car back today. 4 days. Turns out they had to rewire the multipin connector to the controller and a few feet of wire. Thats what they said. It was not the controller or anything else that they told me it might be.

It works. Thats all that matters. The bill to Ford for warranty work was $440.

I think my car just did this.  Wife said an alert to rear sensors came up yesterday.  Went away when I restarted the car, and not seen since..

They should put a styrofoam cup to the sensors and check to make sure they are ticking/working.  Otherwise it is the controller.  Not much else to look for within that system.

I wonder if the Dealer cleared the stored DTC!!. Z
I would try removing the ground cable for 30min.
FWIW found this in the owners manual.

The system can be turned off using the information display control.
Refer to the Information Display chapter.
If a fault is present in the system, a warning message appears in the
information display and does not allow the driver to switch the faulted
system on.
Note: If your vehicle is equipped with MyKey®, it is possible to prevent
turning the sensing system off. Refer to the MyKey® chapter.
Using the Rear Sensing System
The rear sensors are only active when the transmission is in R. As the
vehicle moves closer to the obstacle, the rate of the audible warning
increases. When the obstacle is fewer than 12 inches (30 centimeters)
away, the warning sounds continuously. If a stationary or receding object
is detected farther than 12 inches (30 centimeters) from the side of the
vehicle, the tone sounds for only three seconds. Once the system detects
an object approaching, the warning sounds again.
A. Coverage area of up to 6 feet
(2 meters) from the rear bumper
(with a decreased coverage area at
the outer corners of the bumper).
The system detects certain objects while the transmission is in R:
• and moving toward a stationary object at a speed of 3 mph (5 km/h)
or less.
• but not moving, and a moving object is approaching the rear of the
vehicle at a speed of 3 mph (5 km/h) or less.
• and moving at a speed of less than 3 mph (5 km/h) and a moving
object is approaching the rear of the vehicle at a speed of less than
3 mph (5 km/h).

Nope. Nothing is plugged in.

Thanks for the posts tho. I will look into the information above and see if I can fix it myself so I can rub it in.

I agree with you. It was either X or Y. Cutting the wires going into the controller and rewiring the plug going into the controller was a stretch imho. They never said they had proof of a fault there. So why do it then. They were talking to Ford direct and following their lead. I do know that much.
