Recommended tire size for 20" SHO wheels

My 14 SHO has the 19" wheels with 255/45R19 tires and they are solid and low-key (no complaints for traction or lateral grip). The new SHOs seem to only come with the 20" wheels with 245 tires. What's the width on the 20" wheels and will they fit 255 or wider tires?

20x8 wheel....have been running with the eagle sport 255-45-20 for well over a year now and couldn't be happier.BTW Metroplex add your signature with your current vehicle and any mods you may have, thanks.  Z

The width of the 20" wheel is 8".  255/45/20 is a common replacement size for the stock 245/45/20 tires, and usually a bit cheaper.  The widest I believe will fit is 275s, a search for that in the Wheel/Tire section should confirm.

EDIT:  Tire manufacturers recommend a minimum 9" wheel width with the 275s,

Ok this may be a stupid question, did putting the 255/45/20 on the car make the tire diameter larger?  I'm asking this because I went to order 255/45/20 and the guy from tirerack said that the overall diameter would go from 28.7 to 29.0 inches and kinda talked me out of buying the tires. I wouldn't think that getting a tire 10mm wider would make the tire .3 inches taller.

The diameter does go up just a bit. If my math is right, the 245/45/20 has a diameter of 28.68 and 255/45/20 is 29.04. The difference is like .36. Think it is just about 1% change.

The 255/45/20 is a pretty common replacement. They are cheaper (most of the time) due to it being a more common tire size. It should hardly mess with your speedometer (should still be accurate to within 1 MPH).

I went to a 255/45/20 and don't care for the look.  Too much side wall, tires just look too big. If the car is stock height they do fill the wheel well a little better.

I'll be going back to the stock tire size.

The speedometer will be off 1-2 MPH as well.

I run the 275/40-20 tires. Rim is 20x9 with 39 mm offset. Tire size was cheaper price wise than most other sizes. Tire rides good, good grip. My car fully stock suspension wise and i love the profile.
