types of catback exhaust systems

Quick question well not really quick but I'm in the market for an aftermarket exhaust and need ideas for my sho. It seems a lot of people have went with corsa however that's on the expensive end. What type of systems do you all have? I was looking at a stainless works system but am unsure at this point as there's quite a few options. Thanks

There are also Borla and Magnaflow.  Dynomax makes an axle back.  I like my stock exhaust but I plan on doing down pipes with a third cat/resonator delete. Maybe this spring.

I like my corsa system as it requires no cutting or welding and Corsa's chamber muffle design. Now with that said and the addition to down pipes on my car, it is quite loud. No drone, but very nasty sounding when cold. At WOT it gets quieter, must have something to do with more back pressure.
Now with all that said the stainless works exhaust seems to be of good value, I think Borla discontinued there system, and magna flow I have read they use a stainless steal that rusts.

I started with Dynomax axle back. Went to Magnaflow X-pipe, 2.5"pipe tube welded to my DynoMax muffler. By a local shop for $500 +$60(@AutoAnything)for x-pipe.

Which downpipes? Catted or non-catted?  Do you have a video by any chance so we can hear what your are talking about?  Thanks.

For the money that the catback manufacturers are charging for their systems is seems like a much better route is to purchase downpipes and have a custom 2.5" exhaust system fabricated. Between catless downpipes ($565 plus $100 install) and a custom 2.5" exhaust system ($650 quoted by local installer) you would get one hell of a system that costs $1,315 and actually gets you considerable gains and an upsized exhaust that the manufacturers are not offering.
Another alternative I am contemplating is to install catless downpipes and a short section of 2.5" straight exhaust pipe that would have electric exhaust cut-outs mounted to them. This would give a dual mode exhaust that would sound like stock when needed and completely unfiltered sound when you want more sound and performance. This option would come in at or around the $1,315 mentioned above for parts and install.

I'm going the downpipe route... What I really want is an automatic exhaust cutout at the bottom of those downpipes like 4DR had built for his flex!  He picked up 37 wheel horsepower from it!!

There are two reasons why I am going to use the manual electric exhaust cutouts:
-There are occasional times I have my wife and kids in the car and just really don't want the cutouts to come on at all in any situation.
-I am not sure of the durability of the cutouts that 4DR used during the salt and sand season here in the Northeast and I definitely want to run them through all four seasons. I have used electric cut-outs from DMH and QTP for my last two vehicles and they stood up very well through the winter and when I had a problem with one unit from DMH is was replaced without question.
I just don't think you can wrong with downpipes and cutouts that may get you 60whp.

Good point, I have the same situation with sound, although only my wife... even though she's gotten used to the jackrabbit starts that I love  ;D .  There is the question of adequate back pressure for safe engine function and 4DR's method seems to address this using manifold pressure/boost related activation.
The best of both worlds might be an automatic that could be electrically activated/disabled for those "quiet cruising" situations. Put the switch in with the automatic parking switch to hide it away.

Love the Stainless Works setup, can't say enough good things about it.  Its not easy making a six cylinder sound good without raspiness, but they did it.

I am not sure if there really is any issue with removing backpressure from the exhaust system with the cutouts as this is not a an N/A application. You can find conflicting information on this subject and it has even been discussed here on this forum, but I am of the mind set that you want the least restrictive exhaust possible on a turbo engine to allow for faster spooling.

I liked the look and sound of my Magnaflow when I had my SHO. I wasn't loud, wasn't quiet. Seemed just right. Small drone below 3k. Quiet as a mouse when cruising. I paid like 650 from hottexhaust.com with a coupon code. And it looked great. With new codes I can get it 680 shipped. Don't think u can find another cat-back for that price.

Miss that car

Taurus builder that is a good deal when I went to the website it shows 1164 as their price for the exhaust. Is there a special code? For that price I'll take it

The only one I have is F62MPC38EX for hottexhaust.com (26% off w free shipping).  Interested if TaurusBuilder comes up with a better one!

I recommend  the SPT boost activated over the electric exhaust cutouts..pricey but worth it.

Catted LMS down pipes. I took some video with phone, it doesn't capture the sound well, actually sounds very mild on video. Will have to take my word for it.
