Why the wheel hop all of a sudden!?!

I have done a brake boost before (hold the brake, rev to 2,000ish RPM's, and go) while still completely stock. After getting the hang of it I started launching the car pretty good. Little squeal off the line, then a chirp on the 1-2 shift. Lately however, I've been getting wheel hop. Only with a tune. LMS stage 3, and now 4+. Launching at 1,800 RPM's or above causes pretty bad wheel hop. Always in sport mode or with advance trac off. I even tried it with advance trac on today. Squealed a little off the line with no issues, then wheel hop on the 1-2 shift. The 1-2 on the 4+ means business. What is going on?  What should I or can I do?  Should I reload stock tune and see what happens?

PLEASE HELP 😬

Could be a indication of worn suspension parts, Or bad engine mounts.

If I reload stock tune and it doesn't wheel hop, do you still think this could be the problem?  I'm wondering if the increased hp is a factor.

Its is a huge factor.

Agree with Chris... check the tuning effects first. You might even try the stage 3 tune... It very well could be increased torque for the 4+.  If it leaves with the tune change start looking at suspension as well as considering modifying your launch

This sucks!  I was looking forward to going to Union Grove this Sunday.

Its weird that this issue has not popped up more. Makes me think something else is going on, What tires are you running?

Michelin pilot sport AS/3. Haven't even had the first rotation yet. I have been slacking though and need to check the pressure. It could be the added torque from the tune. I'm gonna reload stock tune tomorrow and see what happens.

I reloaded stock tune this morning. Of course now I forgot how to drive! I can't get a good launch to see if I can replicate the wheel hop. And going back to stage 3 won't help because I already know I get wheel hop with that tune.

IF ANYONE HAD HAD ANY ISSUES WITH WHEEL HOP PLEASE CHIME IN WOTH YOUR 2 CENTS.

In the meantime, I'm gonna try launching some more on the stock tune, see if I can get her on my dad's lift, and email livernois to see if they can help.

I think this may throw a wrench in my Sunday at the strip plans.

My solution to wheel hop was to not treat the accelerator like a toggle switch, like I could before the car was tuned.

What do you mean by "toggle switch?"  No brake boosting?

I run the same tires and tune in my 2011 non PP.  The only time I have gotten wheel hop was when it was really cold out.  Now that it has warmed up they slip just a little bit and then I am gone.  When I use the brakes to spool up to about 2,000 RPM I don't put the gas to the floor right away though.  I give it enough to get the RPM's up and hold it there.  Once I let off the brake I go farther to the floor but not immediately, pretty quick though.  No wheel hop launching like that.

I brake boost sometimes, but I roll onto the throttle to avoid wheel hop. Without the tune it was just mash it and go.

Good advice. I will try this method.

It was cold out, not really cold, but chilly enough.

Basically, I launch at roughly 3/4 throttle and by the time I'm reaching the top end of 2nd I'm at WOT, with most of that additional 1/4 throttle coming after the 1-2 shift. Just have to experiment a little and see what works best for your setup.

Check your tire pressure as well.

Yeah I'm gonna do that today. I've been slacking and not checking regularly.

The only time I've had any wheel hop is in less than desirable traction conditions with a tune. (Cold and or wet)

Everyone above has pretty well covered the reasons why it happens though.
