13+ sport mode what's the deal?

I have a 13, sport mode is definitely different that drive, shifts higher and throttle is touchier for sure. But the paddle shifters don't really let you shift at wot.., it still shifts on its own up shifting when it's in manual mode. So what is the point of the paddle shifters other than down shifts?

I despise that these stupid manual mode automatic transmissions even exist....why do u want to pretend you are driving a manual if its not...maybe for bad weather but thats not the intent...all mfg's are offering these as a sporty feature

Your car should upshift with the paddles in select shift mode(sst) and will downshift...but when in S mode u have to tap a paddle to enter sst mode...if u stomp the pedal it will automatically downshift which is incredibly stupid to me.

All you sct guys..if you dont want it to down shift and want to hold the gear you have selected tell torrie to do this: change "pedal position to command kickdown in sst mode" to 1024. That is a throttle count....the stock setting is 500..so if u roll on the throttle gently it wont downshift on you...if you mat the gas the throttle counts exceed 500 and request a downshift

It shifts up when I hit the paddles just cruising around. But under wot if I try to shift it manually it ends up going 2 gears because the computer shifts also.

Thats probably because you are shifting at the same time...why worry about timing the upshift?..let the car do it....but at least you can set it so it wont downshift when you floor it...

The reason i changed mine was because when i floor the car sometimes i dont want a balls to the walls downshift just to get 800 rpms from the lower gear....i like to feel the low end tq that the baby turbos provide...i like being at 2500 rpms and having 400+ ft lbs tq.

Also the stock calibration has a setting for max rpm after downshift...its 5500...i made mine 5000 so no matter what if u floor it in D it wont call for a gear if the rpm after the downshift will be above 5000

Like if u are almost near the end of a gear and u punch it and the rpms go to 5500...you will get another 500 rpm...with all the tq better off staying in the higher gear i think

I don't ever drive around in sport mode shifting manually, I did do it the other day and wondered what the point was to be "able" to manually up shift if the computer is gonna do it anyway. If it's gonna be manual let me handle the shifting.

I like the downshift to first at about 25mph.. Car feels like it takes off.  I raced my brother on the way to the dragstrip one time. From about 30mph... No downshift.. He pulled a car on me right off the jump.. I thought for sure he was gonna beat me at the track. I ran a 12.9, he ran a 13.5 both had same 60ft times... Let's just say we were both suprised. I like the downshift in that situation.

Then just leave it in S lol...im confused why you are trying to time the upshift at redline when the car will do it

I use S when i drag race for quick throttle response.

I use sst manual mode when im datalogging to do a full gear sweep from low rpm and i mat the gas i dont want a downshift and on the dyno its nice...sometimes if im doing spirited driving and i want to control the downshifts and maybe do a short shift upshift cause i dont want to redline it...if you do it will upshift anyway

AJ think these stupid paddle shifters in manuel mode was first created by [All Jap cars]performance.lol.  Z

Hopefully once Torrie has nailed my car down with some more logs he can make the engine program the same for both modes. When I stab the gas I want all she's got. I don't want to nail the throttle to pass someone but fail because my car was in weak sauce mode.  He's got mine to set up to hold the gear which is nice for leaving it in 3rd or 4th running though my fav canyon roads.  I would love for it not to up shift as well. I have a feeling that will bite me in the ass when I auto-X next year.

It's all half ass gimmick to make you think "race car". But they are tiny paddles, not a full control, and to see what gear your in you practically need bifocals since audibly you can't tell on a stock car especially with its tiny ass tachometer.  For most people these things are awesome. For someone that actually races cars on a track like me immediately sees how these "features" are lacking their full potential.

Good chance they are Z...but they wouldve probably snapped off if they were lol

Its unlikely you will find everything you are looking for...some parameters are hard coded in the ecu and cant be changed in order to protect itself...i havent seen anything in the tune to prevent the upshift when u redline...i dont think ford wanted the car smacking the rev limiter for an extended time.

D and S really arent that different...when you nail it in drive you arent getting some weak sauce mode...basically there is just a torque multiplier applied to the pedal when in S . Pedal sensitivity is increased but at wot the commanded tq would be the same along with some shift schedule chages by throttle position...the torque multiplier is similar to one of those pedal boosters..

I wouldnt think your car is that different...in sport mode it should hold the gear ur in....and if the shift schedule is set to hold 3rd and 4th in D when on your canyon road that seems it would be annoying because how would you go back to normal shifting when cruising?

S mode and SST mode are different..i think some confuse the 2

Oh I totally understand the reasoning for the S mode to have different transmission settings and I'm fine with that, I get it.  Its that the power output/tq management and DBW pedal being different in the two modes that grinds my gears.  I don't see why EVERYTHING has to change about the car.  I think it adds unnecessary variables to the car's feel.  I'm a cable throttle, clutch cable, hydraulic steering, and non traction control kinda guy.  I'll be the nut behind the wheel that tells the car what to do, not the ECU.  But I'm a minority of typical car buyers.  I actually take my cars to tracks and toss them around.

One thing I do like about the paddle shifters is when I'm going down a steep grade I can click it back for a bit and the car knows when I don't need it in a lower gear any more and goes back to its "regularly planned show".

When I data log there is a huge difference in boost levels between Drive and Sport.  Its easily felt and seen when logging.  (5psi difference actually)  But like I said. I'm in the infant stages of sending logs back/forth with Torrie.  I'm on number 7 I think.

I do leave it in s... U shouldn't be confused, I was just venting. It makes me mad that the paddle shifters are there and the car doesn't let you drive it the right way.

I would be crazy by now logging third gear pulls if this wasn't a standard AJPTurbo tune quality!

Haha. Tell me about it. I just got my PRP software up and running, so I've been out trolling for tips-n-tricks. ;)

This little gem will be important. LOL
