5 Seater Shootout - Thoughts on the next buy?

Thanks for all the input guys! Let's not turn this into another pissing match between tuners though.

That's good to know about the speed3 not being offered for 2015...guess it takes that off the table.

So it would come down to the ST and the WRX...I do like all the plusses of the ST; more cargo room, Ford Ecoboost platform, loads of fun to drive (from what I've heard), lots of modding options...but the WRX certainly has it upsides too...mainly more power and AWD.

Both available with a 6sp. manual gearbox and a turbocharged 2.0L power train.

I admit, the fake "torque vectoring" accomplished by the brakes instead of mechanical means is a turn off...but for $25K it's not going to be perfect.

Looks like when the time comes, I'll be doing some test driving between the two and going from there.

Now to find them in stock somewhere...
let us know what u decide curiosity gets the best of us... and 14 speed 3 are probably still available I'd be curious if dodge will release the srt dart I've seen concepts

Curious what your impressions are of the WRX. The ST is at a stand still mod wise, i thought? I think they have maxed out there fuel pump?

ST for sure... almost bought one instead of the SHO... just because they are that fun.

Interior is light years ahead of the WRX, which is huge for me, and the tq vectoring actually works quite well. It doesnt tug the wheel like youd expect... less in fact, than an lsd equipped ms3.

Haven't heard of this...This would be good info to look into though...

The ST gets bumped down...like, WAY down if I can't mod it...where's the fun in driving a stocker!?

no its not on your list and this is a ford forum but hell veloster turbo..... I had a chance to drive one before I bought my sho I actually had a great experience with it....not sure about aftermarket support but its a nice quirky semi speedy car. As an owner of both a Ford and Hyundai which btw is turbo as well :) both companies shine in my opinion

If you are open to not so fast....

Fiat 500L. Shorter than a Focus, piles of room, good fuel econ, fun to drive in the manual without being overly quick (feels faster than it is ;) .) Uses the Abarth engine so room for mods as well. There are even meth kits avail for them. ;)

But it is a bit of a 'unique' vehicle. I'm odd, what can I say.

If you were to up your budget you could grab one of these....

well...it's missing three seats, and only $35K above budget...but sure! why not!? I mean hell, it's still $90K less than the GT-R.

Wrong ..... tons of mods for the ST .
Check out Cobb tuning and others .

Yup, Cobb and Unleashed tune ST's. Even Buscher makes dp and exhaust... lots of options.
And gd they are tossable... little go cart with tq

Talks about burning through a whole set of pads at the track because of the torque vectoring.

http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-st-performance/8903-fuel-pump-upgrade-12.html

3-11-14 Still no FP. They are out of fuel the same as this platform. Theres upgrades but there limit has been reached.

Cobb offers an intake, fmic, dp, exh, motor mount for a measy $3225 witch is good for 90hp with there off the shelf tune.; Like i said before they are out of fuel so the mods are at a stand still.

Yeah...and we are at a standstill on fuel issue's on our platform temporarily as well ...

The point is I would bet my bottom dollar that the Focus ST folks get stuff that they need before we do because there are tons of the little beasties out there ....
No car is perfect.. they all have issues and maybe flaws  . I bet your fav car for him sucks as far as others are concerned as well .
The ST for the money is a blast to Drive , OK truth be told ..... I bought one for my son and sometimes he " lets me drive it " .
Its a lot more fun to drive than my old Fusion ever was .

Ford just dumb founds me by putting a brake as a differential. I cant imagine driving spirited and it wearing the brakes being a good idea.

And then the fact my minivan beats the 'hot hatch' in the quarter mile almost seems embarrassing.

There is supposed to be one at the track this weekend. If i line up with it, i'll get a video of it, and post it in here.

The torque vectoring seems to work pretty well on the twisties and I doubt it's used often enough to cause any issues.

2013 SHO's have it also and my brakes are wearing evenly at 20K

If there is a problem, I'm sure the police package equipped cars will exhibit symptoms first.

My car hasn't been on a road course but when that happens, I will let you know if i toast a set of pads.

How many times have you auto crossed your car?

If i had a hatch, auto crossing for fun would be something i would do.

I'm with you.

Like I said, I haven't but when I do I will report back if I kill my pads.

One guy on the MS6 forum who "heard" about this doesn't have me terribly concerned...I didn't notice anyone backing this up.

I might check in at the Jet and see what's up as a Fiesta ST may be in our future.

You seen the fiesta st on cobb's webpage? I was so impressed and then the gains they had.

If i ever need a commuter car, i will defiantly be looking into that car
