93+× lms tune question

New member
First time posting and new to the ecoboost world but not turbos. Took my 2010 mks to the track Saturday and am a lil disappointed in my results. Best pass I had of the night was 13.51 at 101. Mods are 93+× tune intake 3 bar. Car is loaded with every option and I am no feather weight so am guessing vehicle is 4900 to 5000 with me in it. Track is clay city ky with an elevation of 620 and air temps were around 68. I launched at 2000 and hooked just fine with a 1.9 60 foot. Am I being over ambitious?

Hello Gosborne,

What was the temperature at the track?  And more importantly how long were you idling in the line up prior to run?

The #1 thing to know about this platform is the engine layout is not good for heat dissipation.  With the intake being aluminum and the Intake2 sensor/MAP sensor being embedded there it can severely retard the spark.  depending on your 60' foot times and heat build up 13.5 is probably close to being right.   

If the car was weighing in at 4900+ pounds i can see the time being heavily impacted by that as well..

My car weighed 4600 pounds this summer with 93 octane gas and tune from AJPTurbo and all i could get was 13.2 and 13.3 all night long. 

the spark timing is where your power is.  And for every 10' degrees F above 100-f your IAT2 sensor reports you loose a certain amount of spark.  Each stepping lowers your peak by quite a bit and that affects your launch and the 1st 100 feet of your run which is VERY critical to the back half of the track.

do you have a timeslip to post ?
 
Are you using the paddles to shift?  Your MPH is way low.

Doh!  multitasking fail ..

So yeah,  low Ambient is good and the 60ft is as good as you will get outside e20/e30.  what I might suggest is launching at 2200-2300,  and dropping weight.

Be cautious with the 2300rpm launch.  anything over that and you may see the ECU cut power thinking there is a fault.  you should be running 13.2 for sure so i'm my head it's the weight and launch.. 

You should be crossing the xx at about 104-106 .. so to be at 101 with a 1.9 60 foot I think weight is the #1 issue .. followed by maybe launching a bit higher.
 
Yea I know heat soak is awful. My idle times were about 45 seconds. Car would seat for about 40 min between runs with good up and cover off. Drive to lane was only about 250 feet and would sit about another 10 min. Temp at track according to the car were around 65 and it's usually off a lil. I'm just wondering if there is still a lil in the table with the tune was really looking for 1.8 or 1.7 60 foot with a 13.1 or 2 at 104. But it's close just going to need more mods. Will post the slip when I get home tonight.

Letting it shift it's self which is at 6300.  Still trying to figure the launch out need to get upgraded brakes I keep pushing through them when I go over 2000 rpm.

Going to be honest,  getting under 1.8 without e20/e30 or meth will be super hard.  1.8 is doable but it will need to be *perfect* circumstances.  At launch your spark will be super low,  and the heat high.. as the run begins you will get a fresh cool air shot from the throttle opening but most of the temporary cooling effect will occur after the 60' is done..  by the time your spark recovers before heat soak builds up at the end of gear-2 the benefit of a fast launch has been lost.

this is what i learned with Brad's tuning and quest for printed on slip 12's.  looking at the logs it all makes sense why i was unable to get under 12's with a tune + 3bar + cold plugs + 93 octane setup. 

my best non-meht run was a 13.09 .. but i *literally* set the car aside hood up ice on intake for a full hour before making one run.  my 2010 spark was around 20' degrees in 2nd and 3rd so it was as good as it could be.  after that i ran 13.2 and 13,3 all night @ 4600lbs.

i'd say you need to log it and look at the IAT2 temps, spark, and look for Torque source behavior.. those three control your power output quite a bit ..
 
Considering the altitude, temperature, general conditions and your 60 foot time, I would say your ET is about 1/2 second slower than I would expect.  It seems like weight would have more effect on the 60 foot time - getting all of that mass moving from a dead stop.    I ran my loaded MKS with the 4+X tune at least 50-60 times in all sorts of conditions and was never over 13.0 in the worst DA and was most often in the 12.8 range.  I also launched at 1800-2000 and usually had 60s in the low 1.9s.  I don't know what the car weighed but the driver added about 180 pounds to it.

Are your plugs SP534s gapped at .030?  Have you cleaned the Map sensor lately?  Checked the Intercooler for condensation?  Made sure you have high quality 93 octane in the tank?  You can help heat somewhat by removing the engine cover and the rubber weatherstripping by the firewall.
 
Going to track again Friday. Have sp534s in it but am going to put new in. Am also thinking I'll run the tune all week instead of flashing at the track.

I would not recommend re- flashing @ the Track !!
How many miles on your MKS?
The fuel trims and trans need to re-learn its adaptive strategy which could take a few days.

Did you re-gap your stock plugs?

that's a good idea.. I do not know if the Livernois module resets the KAM and fueling but for me changing tunes at the track is disastrous until the OAR resets.
 
If you didn't change your stock plug gaps before tuning then that is probably why your MPH is way down, the stock gaps are all over the place.  Probably knocking a bunch and pulling all your timing.
