Are the stock brakes really this bad?

There is a night and day difference between PP and non PP pads.

The 2013 made all kinds of noise when provoked. You could feel what I would call increased friction through the pedal. No change in performance, very annoying.

I'm surprised just a change in the pad makes that much difference.

Pad change and fluid has always been the most cost effective brake upgrade...just like winter tires and all seasons. There is compromise...15" rotors with 6 piston brakes can be smoked in a few minutes with pads meant to last and be quite and not destroy rotors...its totally unrealistic to expect a taurus off the lot to brake well and repeatedly from 100 plus...the PP's are pretty good but i get squeals here and there..ford already has to deal with the likes of people like us wanting new brakes at 20k to compliment our 3 bar power because they squeal and warp...imagine a nice pad with real bite...people would really cry when they hear those brakes make noise...ford was trying to satisfy the masses not the people who added 130 ft/lbs to their SHO

Even high end rotors use the same grey cast iron blanks as a base.

So I did a visual inspection of the pads and rotors. Everything looks 100%. The pads look like new, the rotors look like new. I realize that doesn't mean there isn't an issue down there, but is there anything else I should check? I can feel a roughness in the peddle and hear the breaks as well, like a droning sound that pulses. Neither are sever but annoying. Didn't know if there was anything else that could be the cause. I only checked the front as I doubt the rears would be the cause but I will poke around and look.

Rotors may have warpage or lateral runout, which you'd have to measure with a micrometer to verify.  Also, the pad backings may need some noise-quieting grease.  Finally, make sure the wheels are properly torqued down.  If they are being handled by the service shop, and they are using air wrenches, overtightening is very common.

Thanks for the ideas, checking the torque on the lugs was going to be the next thing I did. Would not be the first time a shop or once "you only do it once" myself screwed that up.

I agree with SHOdded da man about the wheels being torqued properly and didn't you have a bent rim fixed a while back?need to make sure that rim was fixed and balanced correctly with high speed forced balancing, check out this link below.  Z https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WpNsa3bFhU

It was just a VERY minor curb rash so I doubt it was from that. I noticed this after doing several high speed runs for tuning, but I did not have to stop quickly on any of them so I'm not sure that is the cause. They did have my wheel off for the rash repair so I will be getting a jack under this thing and loosening and re-torquing the wheels.

2013+ brakes are awesome. You may have something going on...the 10-12s are horrible. I've owned both.

Both these statements are true. I have also owned both.
