Benefit of letting sync use my wifi?

So I'm learning the ins and outs of Sync and there is an option in it to connect to wifi.  Why do I want my car to connect to my home network?  What is the benefit?  Thanks.

Not much it appears.  The Wifi functionality is there mainly to provide a hotspot for in-car passengers.  Apparently b/g (no n, sorry).

So why would I go through the car connected to a hot spot instead of connecting to the hot spot itself?

This is correct. The original intent was to use the cars USB for a WiFi stick, turning the car into a hot spot. Hot spots have depreciated this feature.
