Considering Stripes - Opinions?

So, I'm considering some FIA/fender stripes and rocker stripes to personalize my Explorer, and I'd be curious to get your opinions. I DON'T want to end up with a douche-wagon, so give me your honest feedback.

I dusted off my Photochop skillz and put together some renderings.

Here's my starting point. Not shown is a 1/8" black pinstripe which I plan to remove. It's basically stock, with some dark windows.

The next two renderings include some other minor cosmetic updates (red calipers, film on parking/rear lights and mirror signal lights, black door handles) to give a more finished look. To stay true to the FIA stripe origins, I'd only put them on the driver's side fender. Rocker stripes would go on both sides.

I'm also leaning toward H&R springs, but that change is not show here (i.e. stock ride height).

I'd do the stripes in vinyl, so if I ever change my mind, they could be easily removed.

Lemme have it! :P

It's a bit much for such a broad sided vehicle

Thanks for the feedback. Be that as it may, I just showed my wife, and she said if I did this, she'd never drive it again.

That alone kind of makes me want to do it. LMAO!!

If you just do the fender it might work. But on the doors it makes it look to busy

What's does it look with just the fender? But I like the first one think it's worth doing.

I like the first pick in the original post. Still a little bit flashy but not too overdone. if you want to make it more subtle my suggestion would be to do a thinner red stripe outlining the black and maybe even a shade or 2 darker so it doesn't "pop" quite as much. not a fan of the solid red stripe

I am just not feeling it on an Explorer. I wish I could be more eloquent on my reason, but I can't. I'm just not feeling it.

Ever think of matte white stripes with a thinner red pinstripe

Hadn't crossed my mind, but I'll Photochop it up in the next couple days and see what it looks like! Interesting idea!

Agree with a lot of you guys that the red is too bright.

I recall a while back a member with a 14 X-Sport installed some hood "twin turbo" pin stripes which looked pretty darn cool. Z

Here's a white rendering. White stripes are 6" wide with a 0.5" red stripe on either side, and down the middle. Not too shabby! My ONLY hesitation is that there's no other white on the vehicle, but I do like it.

I also ran a 0.5" white stripe down the rocker with a 0.25" red stripe just below it. It's a lot more subtle than the fat rocker stripes I showed before.

Here's an updated black/red as well. With the smaller rocker stripes.

These two also have the drop simulated for H&R Ex springs. :)

Nice! I do like those, I just wonder if it'd be too over-the-top in addition to stripes.

Appreciate the feedback, guys! Decisions, decisions! :P

Oh I was under the assumption your explorer was white... I'd do matte whatever color your truck is lol

Ahh, okay, that makes more sense then. :) Thanks!

Mine is "Ingot Silver".

I'd do the black/red FIA stripes with a red pinstripe on top of the current rocker panel.

Hey, I like that idea! Will the vinyl stick to the plastic rocker panel, though? I assumed it would stick better on paint, so I didn't even consider the rocker panel initially.

I doubt it would stick to the plastic without some sort of prep or paint. I meant I would put it as a dividing line between the white paint and black plastic, applied to the paint. If you were going to put it on the plastic, I'd guess it would need to be painted on.

Ahhh, I gotcha, cool. I will play around with that, thanks!

I'd be down with the stripe that's at the bottom of the doors.  The one from above the wheels is just to similar with other things:  APR (tuner for Porsche and VW), mid 80s corvette (can't remember the exact model but it was blue with this pair of red stripes), and Mopar has something similar too.
