Pretty impressive numbers and a definite comparo is going to be done with the SHO and 300 SRT-8.

True... but it's a V8 not a V6, has the gas guzzler tax, and doesn't use the current GM engine technologies.  It's also of note that the turbo'd V6 in the CTSv sport has the same performance numbers. Let's see how things unfold.

is the TTV6 caddy heavier than the SHO then ? I think stock vs stock they have more power output right ?

The Caddy  TT V6 is 420 HP @ 6800 rpm... cadillac site should have the weight.  The CTS V-sport (to get the TT V6) starts at $59,995!

As an aside, I wonder what the insurance premium of the V or the SS would be over the SHO.  Since reportedly Ford curtailed power to stay within a "family insurance" range.

RE: insurance  - Good question.  My SHO is $18/6mo more than the F150 I traded for it... full coverage.

& still has only rear wheel drive. for my money the only comparable GM is the Caddy XTS w/ V6 w/ twin turbo but it's price tag is a good 50% more than a SHO. It is nice looking from the back looks like a Lincoln, as a friend up the the street has the non turboed one.

Agree.  For me, a non AWD car doesn't make it to my comparison page when comparing to the MKS/SHO.

I drove an XTS VSport for a while - no saleman present, so I could put it through the paces.  Very nice interior, but lacked the heart (and seat of the pants feel) of my MKS.  Now, in all fairness, the MKS is tunes.  In tuned form, maybe I would feel a whole lot differently.

I gotta be real for a minute.  I love my Fords but they are falling WAY behind in interior.  Class example, I was at the Motor Trend car show here in Vegas over TG weekend, and sat in almost every single brand of vehicle, almost every single model besides the econoboxes.  Even got to race the simulator at Ford's booth.  Anyway, Dodge/Ram had the best fit and finish in their cars for the money.  Hyundai (especially the Equus, OMG that car) had stellar interiors, and of course the lux brands all have things figured out.  Chevy (wow that new Vette btw) interiors are getting better and better, especially the new trucks.  But one of the last booths was Ford.  I immediately hopped in a Raptor first.  It was incredibly disappointing.  Then of course I hopped in the Taurus, and the feeling stayed.  The problems?  Hard plastics where you really would prefer something more soft, and tactile details.  Panel gaps.  Inconsistencies in trim.  Surprise sharp edges and seams.  All of this takes away from the interior's panache.

The SS wasn't there, but all of Chevy's upper range cars and trucks had great interiors.  I think what may be perceived as gaudy may be more attractive in person.  Sometimes a camera can accentuate something our eyes may just view as appropriate.

Also, there is NO comparison to the fun factor of a fully RWD sports car.  Sure, gotta turn the nannies off, but once you do, Wooo HOOO!

Re: "Turn the nanny's off"... Just as food for thought, not a flame:

I haven't seen any proof that a car that can spin tires and 4-wheel drift corners is any faster... even though I don't argue the fun factor with both!!... The "nannies need to be opened hop all the way to the edge.  If I wanna go fast in doesn't make too much sense to put more HP to the wheels than a car can actually utilize.  These things are designed for safety, but can be used to make us all slightly less than expert drivers by doing things no person can.

That said... The purists out there are still hottest on RWD.... ?old habits?

My V is unusable if I put the tranny into sport mode (actually use 1st gear - otherwise in drive, car starts in 2nd) and turn off all traction control, it just sits and spins. It's awesome to spin through to the middle of 3rd but not fast. That's not power braking either, just rolling into the throttle. Nannies on the car launches fine in 2nd gear with some spin but controlled by traction control. :)

That's why there is NO substitute for a 2door, RWD, manual trans muscle car (Mustang). Buy when it comes to hauling a family, the SHO provides enough room and truck space to do it all, and allows me to have fun when solo driving.

My G8's insurance costs are less than my Flex in FL.

Miami dealer has 3 SS discounted $3K.  Most dealers are at retail or higher.  Not aware there is a gas guzzler tax on them, but perhaps there is.

Autoweek also has a drive report on them today.  LS3 has many performance parts and options for mods.  You can check out all the options on Maryland Speed's site - G8 almost identical, and many Camaro parts fit.  Cost to mod to 450 wheel HP very similar from my experiences and knowledge of both platforms.  The Zeta platform is virtually identical to the 08' G8 and has been slightly changed with higher strength steel and front and rear clips.

A low mile G8 GT is a much better buy and can be modded to out run stock SS for less than $3,000. My 08' G8 is a 12 second vehicle on CAI, Headers and Tune.  Less than $2.k  My 09' is a fraction from 11's in average DA conditions and Mods are around $6,500.  This doesn't include custom wheels and wider rear tires, which I installed before most mods.

I paid $32K on the road (including all taxes and licensing) for my 08' which had a retail of $33,200. + tax. This was 7 days after official release.  I paid $28, 200. on the road (including all taxes & licensing) for my  09', which had a retail of $34,100. + tax.  This was 2 mo. before GM cancelled Pontiac.  My son got a similar vehicle for another $1,500. discount, the summer of 09'.

Autoweek drove the new TT XTS and said it rides like a Buick!  Has plenty of power once moving but they said it was really disappointing performance and handling wise.  Felt like the old DTS.
