down pipes

anyone put these in if so how hard  was it.. thinking of going catless and putting stock ones back on for emissions if there easy so just looking for some input on how hard it was thanks

Paul informed me it was easier for the explorer sport, much more room in the rear but if you don't have a lift it's still 2-3 hours of PITA to get it done on your back with jackstands.

I brought my car into a shop the other day and while it was on the lift I got a good look at the downpipes/turbos. Some of the bolts look pretty difficult to get to, and without air, will be a bitch to get loose to begin with. They said they would charge me two hours labor to get the job done. Having done a single downpipe before and it taking me almost 4 hours, I am inclined to let them do it. Any issues you have will be with removing the stock pipes though. The catless PPE pipes leave MUCH more clearance when bolting everything back up.

I would go ahead and give them the two hours to do the job for you.  It's worth it.

Ya!  Like Dave said... Let them do it !
Without a lift you struggle not only with the exhaust bolts and the shape of the pipes, but also with the lower O2 sensor on the pipe from the front 3 cylinders... Which really requires a special socket to avoid breakage... It will be as tight as the others... Based on my experience Ford ran out of anti-seize compound.

The Explorer install is definitely a little easier than the Taurus in most aspects. I know our downpipes take about an hour less to install on the Explorer than our SHO pipes do.
