Drop in K&N Air Filter creates BOV sounds?

New 2018 non- PP SHO with 1,200 miles - I put a K&N air filter in the stock air box yesterday and now I can hear a BOV sound.  I thought the BOVs on the Ecoboost were silenced as I never heard this wonderful noise on my 2015 SHO...but I never changed out the stock air filter for a high flow air filter on that vehicle...is this normal?

I don't think you would hear a BOV sound but feel free to post an actual audio @ your earliest convenience, thanks.  Z

I did try to get an audio of it but the wind noise washed it out...will see if my son can get it on audio..so going like 25mph...gag the throttle up to about 35 or 40mph and back off the throttle and then there is click noise and the sound of the release of air pressure like a BOV or wastegate would sound like..until i get the sound on audio is this something I need to be concerned about?...just never heard this sound out of my 2015 SHO but it had a stock air filter...my son has a 2018 F150 2.7L Ecoboost for his work vehicle and said he hears some sort of wastegate/BOV sounds out it.

Revert back to STOCK FILTER! Proceed from there.  Z  :)
The only time you would hear a BOV Sound is while VTA.
Hows the performance ! Check to see if the wastegate hose is intact.

Thanks Z...no performance issues...seems a bit stronger but being just over 1,000 miles just starting to get into the throttle...sorry but what is VTA...i can guess but ...also...where is the wastegate hose located...just an amateur here looking for a little more performance by dropping in a high flow filter...did not realize doing such would create issues...thank u for your guidance always appreciated.

I did a Dry filter and also hear the turbo whine and bov under just the right circumstances.

As to recording the sound.. get a old cell phone get some thick rubber bands and strap it to something then place it UNDER the filter IN the air box :) thats how i did mine to hear better.

Yeah...exactly...not constant...and i hear more turbo whine...mainly when going 25'ish mph and then punching it up to about 35 or 40mph and then letting off the throttle...not something i do all the time but just happened to do such after i dropped in the K&N filter....had to test her out....

I hardly see how a quick 25mph to 35/40 mph would even be a satisfying test. Need to atleast rev out a full gear IMO. Aftermarket filters/intakes are known to have less silencing, so typically you hear some slight air whoosing sounds, etc. Along with that, if you have something not sealed 100% that could also cause what you're hearing, but you might feel that in performance.

Oh yeah believe me I did some WOT pulls - could hear the turbos more but not the wastegate sounds...only hear those in the scenario i described.  No drop in performance..actually feels a bit stronger...the tubing on the front wastegate is secure...havent located the rear wastegate yet....not sure if i gotta go under the car to see it...could not locate it from the topside.

TO THE OP Since your SHO IS BRAND SPANKING NEW Make certain every HOSE CLAMP from TOP TO BOTTOM is Nice and tight from personal experience....
Sometimes they are left LOOSE From the Factory! Hoses also expand due to Heat exposure and might be beneficial to inspect every hose for a peace of mind!
Best of luck.  Z  :)
