dyno tune vs mail order?

I have been wanting to tune my car after reading all the good things about them.. My only question is . I live 35 min from lms and want to go up there to get a dyno tune but can never get off work in time. Should i make an appointment for a dyno tune and take the day off work ? Or would ordering a tune from them be good enough?  Or maybe i should order the mycal and then set up a appointment.

Yes.  Get a dyno tune from LMS if they are close by.

Yes.  Get Dan in your car on the dyno!  :thumb:

Your lucky lms is close by . I'm a good 1656 miles and considering going for a dyno tune one of these days . So if I were you I would definitely setup an appointment for a dyno tune.

You will have to schedule a appointment. Plan leaving your car there the entire day. Ordering a tuner prior to dyno is fine too.

Am I right in thinking that you'd want to have all the mods done that you want to do in the foreseeable future to get the best bang for your buck out of the dyno tune?

I know with previous vehicles that I have owned that the custom email tunes from noteable tuners are almost dead on with not much room for improvement. If you have ever dealt with Johan at Diablosport, you know what I am talking about.
So has anyone actually justified the cost of a dyno session as compared to actual results/gains? Any before/after dyno graphs?

The general consensus I get from having read this message board is that it's worth it if you are trying to squeeze every last bit of performance out, but it's not worth it if you don't track a whole lot. However, I'd let some others weigh in before you take my word for it.

The two times I went to Livernois (20 hours drive):
First time, with my 2010 SHO, the dyno session resulted in no changes at all with the tune I had gotten from them via email.
Second time, with the 2013 SHO, I went there and Dan couldn't get accomplish all he wanted. That was back in May 2013, so he hadn't cracked all the codes at that time.

So, from my experience, it has never been worth the time and money to have the dyno session... But I still had a good time meeting with them and other members/friends at the track meeting, so no regret at all. But all that to say that the emailed tune is usually very close to the best you can get from them and if ever they can improve, they will offer you the update for free anyways...

The top tuners are in the ballpark for sure.  If your willing to learn how to datalog (on road) certain tuners (Unleashed) can modify or adjust the tunes if the need is there.  This forum is divided between two tuners.  So pick which one you feel most comfortable with.  Good luck.

But all that said... If you live only 35 minutes from LMS...

Get it dyno tuned in real time... the safest way of all to get the most from your engine/tranny...
