DynomaxVT mufflers

Has anyone tried these on their SHO?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kJwwvYNQVA

They are high flow mufflers with an exhaust pressure activated spring controlled flap that reduces drone at low flow situation like highway cruising. Seems like the perfect answer for my exhaust cause I want the car quiet in neighborhoods and cruising on the highway but sounds like a beast otherwise. There are tons of videos on youtube of them on different applications. Can someone please try for me =-) I really want these I am thinking..!

Here's my feedback on this. I had rasp from hell when I put on Stainless Works catless downpipes with the Corsa cat back. These cars are notorious for rasp due to how long the exhaust pipes are.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=128SB_RY0UQ

The factory exhaust has 2 cats, 1 x pipe, and 1 H style rear muffler/cat before the rear mufflers. If you go through the trouble of just replacing the mufflers, you're gonna be pretty disappointed. Anything after the cats + x pipe, + rear cat won't change the tone too much. I do, however, enjoy the muffler delete sound, but I feel at high way it can be a little noisy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8v5Sw_lTX8

If you decide to do what i did with the catless downpipes and corsa cat back, I strongly recommend getting a magnaflo (or alike fiberglass resin) muffler to cut down on the rasp. I know one of the ecoboosters had a lot of luck with my stainless works catless downpipes and MRT axle back.

Thank you for the feedback.

Actually I have a full custom 2.5in turbo-back exhaust waiting for installation in the garage. I am just afraid it will be too loud with a straight through muffler design so I am looking at "plan B" if I doesn't like it.

LMS catted downpipes
custom x-pipe and mid-pipe (3rd cat delete)
unknown muffler offset-center 2.5in straight through
5in tips (too big for my taste)

I should take pictures and get back here.

I'd go straight to using the magnaflow resignating muffler.... You will still have rasp with high flow cats

I tried the 2.5" Vt's on my SHO with PPE Catted down pipes and no 3rd cat or resonator and the car just buzzed under throttle and sounded horrible. I put the stock mufflers back on and I have been happy like that... Hard to describe the hum under load the mufflers made like an forlorn bee or something was not good.

Wow, very close to the setup I was looking for. Did you kept the VT's? Which part number did you get?

I guess you meant resonating muffler?

Well, I tried the Dynomax VT 17962 on my WRX and I am not impressed. The valve starts opening at 2.5k rpm even though it's a 2.0L engine making 0 boost at that rpm and the muffler is supposed to be design for +4.0L of engine displacement. On cold engine/muffler startup it makes clunking sounds. When everything is up to temp, I need to be so easy on the throttle to keep it silent it's not even fun.

The sound at WOT is good though and at US$90 it is a fun experiment.

Where's the thing I should probably have bought, and will probably do:

I am leaning heavily towards these mufflers. I have catted dp's as well, but the rest of the system is stock. not removing the 3rd cat or center resonator. I'm thinking the buzzing you had was maybe because you deleted those, and/or went to 2.5". I plan on going with the 2.25"...p/n 17155 I believe. thoughts?

been on for a few weeks. I love them.
What size did you go with?

2.25" in and out.
I had also bought dynomax tips (2.50" in, 3"out), but they are too short (6"). I have since ordered longer ones (2.50" in, 4" out, 11" long) that should be here Friday.
