Early planning 2014 Ford Nationals - Carlisle

Just sent a message to Event planning at Carlisle for 2014 FORD Nationals.  I asked them if they have heard anything from FORD if they are planning to do anything for the 25th anniv of the Taurus SHO.  I told them people are planning vacations for next yr.  So hopefully will here something back from them this week.  Sorry this has been on the back burner right now, working on getting rear axle replaced in Expedition  :banghead:

Anyone have any recommendations for lodging at/near Carlisle?  A quick search on hotels.com shows a Days Inn at $76/night right now, most are at/above $100/night.  Of course, POSSIBLY cheaper rates could be had closer to event time.  Enough interest to get a block of rooms?

I am about 65-75 minutes from Carlisle, and if you guys want me to check on rooms in my area, I can do that. I don't think you will find cheaper rates closer to the event, as these motels are normally booked from year to year, much like the Reading area the week of the NHRA National Event held the past weekend.  But I am far enough away that are motels do not upcharge this weekend, and it's still not to far to drive to the event.  I also am willing to check out motels that are closer to Carlisle, but as you get closer, most of them are aware of the Carlisle event schedule and price accordingly.  I'm willing to do leg work if anyone wants me to check out anything, just let me know...

Well got a reply back from Carlisle, well its bad and but little bright spot.  Here is there reply.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for contacting us.  We have been in many talks with Ford regarding the 2014 and 2015 Events in recent weeks.  No talks have really come up about them pushing an SHO Agenda here as the 50 Years of Mustang will be the primary agenda they are pushing at major events.  We will be putting together a 50 Years of Mustang Display as well as a 110 Years of Ford Motor Company display along with a Womens Invitational.  Not sure if there is interest from the SHO community in doing maybe a Tent or Display celebration on their portion of the field but we are open to that if they are interested.  Any questions please let me know.

Best Regards,

Guess its up to us now.  I'll be on the other forums putting this info up.

Just a quick update from me, I just contacted a friend who is the Sales Manager at the Best Western here in Lewisburg about motel rooms in Lewisburg for this event, but I  haven't heard back from him.  Again, it's probably about a 70 minute drive to the Carlisle event, but hopefully the rooms will be more reasonably priced because I'm sure most of the Carlisle area will be unavailable or very pricey. Will post more info as I receive it. I am getting housing info together now. I also will contact another motel about 12 miles closer then Lewisburg to the event, just so you guys will have the info.

Certainly a dilemma.  Can we get enough space on the field to share with the Ford official displays?  Do we want to splinter SHOs from the rest of the Ecoboost performance community?  If we get our own tent & display, we can showcase the non-pony performance aspect of Ford's history.  Certainly there's something for everyone under the blue oval umbrella.

As it stands now we are reserving under Liberty SHO club (as far as I know) and this includes all generations of the SHO, Taurus, and other Ecoboost vehicles.  My thoughts is that we will split into our various groups in our display area, and I know Mike said that we will be getting a banner.  If Ford doesn't acknowledge the SHO, so be it. I think it will still be a nice event and a chance to meet others from the SHO, Taurus, Ecoboost area.  Besides, this way it will be easier to get a tent at no cost and get to the required minimum participants.

The tent location will depend on how many preregister.  If we get alot and everyone lets me know, I'll get back ahold of  Ken at Carlisle see if we can get prime location on the show field.  I'm venting some here so bare with me.  I'm little mad, they did something for the freakin pinto and merkur cars really, they were FORD worse POS ever made.  Maybe if the almighty's at FORD went to some of the forums, they would see that we are interested in next yr.  Well what should I expect, you don't see and ads for the Taurus or Flex on tv, we are the ugly step child I guess.  Sorry about the rant.  I don't know about drag strip down in that area, but if alot of you guys stay near Lewisburg, we could go to Friday Night Drags at BeaverSprings dragway and have some fun.

Well, as I stated before, I am definitely going to be registering, can I wait for that $10 discount, or should I preregister now to help with the tent location?

I haven't registered yet but will, but I'm going to wait until January to register...no reason, just thought I'd wait until 2014.....

I sent an email to my contact at Ford again. We (SHO Owners) should all definitely plan to get a tent and our own section of the field.

I hope it will work for the car nationals, as the link came from the truck nationals.  If nothing else, maybe buying over the phone may net the max discount.

**Update 11/25/13**

I have confirmed that I will be staying on the same (night) shift for 2014.

As such, vacation picks must be submitted by 12/15/13 (for next year).

I am working out the logistics with the Wife, as it pertains to our own family vacation plans, and what days I have available to utilize outside of those, so that I can attend this event.

Looking ahead, I am scheduled to work that entire weekend (of the Nationals).

However, this isn't necessarily a bad thing mind you, because according to Google Maps, it's a solid, 10hr drive from my starting point, to the event grounds.

Not terrible by any means, and certainly doable.

It also appears (looking back throughout this thread) that the initial dates listed, are incorrect.

As of today, visiting the Official Web Site, the Official Event Dates are as follows:

Friday June 6th, 2014
Saturday June 7th, 2014
Sunday June 8th, 2014

So, chances are looking better for me to attend I guess is all I'm saying.

Hope others are still considering, and/or planning accordingly.

Thanks!  :thankyou:

Ha! You guys may get a laugh out of this.....

I just asked my Mother, since her and her new husband own three cars amongst the two of them, if my lovely (*ahem*) Wife can borrow one of their cars for the weekend the Ford Nationals are slated to be held.

Mom says "Sure, why? What do you have going on?"

So I explain the whole thing about the Ford Nationals, and how I don't really desire to put 1,300+ miles on my SHO, and that I would prefer to trailer it (my SHO) back/forth, to/from the event.....

Mom says "cool, no problem at all".

So I inform the Wife today, that among the various dates I'll be selecting for my 2014 Vacation Schedule, is the three days this event is being held in June.

That irk'd her to begin with, but then when I quipped "oh yea, and btw, I'll be using your truck to load my car onto a trailer, and trailer the SHO there and back".

Wife's like "Whoa, hold up! What? Huh? You wanna do what?"

So that sends her slightly over the edge, with her beginning to rant and rave "It's a God Damn car, you can drive (YOUR) car there (and back).... absolutely ridiculous" and blah blah blah and yaddie yaddie yaddie yah yah.....

I just laughed and walked away saying "I love you honey".

:rofl2:  :laughing1:

Oh man Mike, that sounds exactly like the response I get from both wife and son...which upsets me to no end since son (at least) is a car guy and likes the SHO.

Well..... submitted my Official Vacation / Time Off Request(s) for 2014....

A portion of which, included the entire weekend this event is being held.

Google Maps shows an approximate 10hr drive for me, therefore, I may end up leaving at some ungodly hour of the morning (overnight) Thursday, to arrive there sometime on Friday.

Or I might head out Wednesday. Don't really know yet.

I guess it depends on when vehicle entrants are required to "roll-in" prior to the grounds being opened for the general public and/or spectators.

So if any others are sitting on the fence about this, please get off of it, pipe up about your attendance, as i'm sure it will help foster others to do the same.
