Engine temp with V8 tune?

I've been running the V8 tune for a few weeks and when I was sitting idling  at my mailbox BSing with a friend on the phone, noticed that the engine temp was hovering around 206 or so on my gauges. That's the highest temp I've seen on the gauges since I got them and the outside temp was only at 65 or so.  When I got out of the car I didn't hear the cooling fans running either, which I've heard before running on the car with the pervious tune.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Nope; though I have no way of measuring -- interesting question to ask though.

I'll be more attentive to cooling fan running.

Have you pinged LMS?

I second that, to tell LMS.  I had several tune changes and fan adjustments and for some reason one of the adjusted tunes they sent me a while back did the same thing.  The fans wouldn't turn on.  They sent me the same tune adjusted again and it was fine.

Second the tell LMS... I had no problems with fans and v8 or when I had v8 adjusted for the 3BAR MAP.... but any computer file can potentially have glitches.  I live in Phoenix and we have had a lot of days in the 90's already.

Check your water pump for leaks etc.

Also .. It's likely any tuned car should have a reduced temp T-stat too.. which will help in any event. Consider that if you haven't installed one.

I just went out and tested mine with V8; while talking to Scott LOL.

50F outside; in my parking garage; with hood closed my fan kicked on 6 minutes after starting for 30 seconds. About 4 minutes later it cycled again for 30 seconds.

Mine is working.

I sent a message over to LMS last night about it and I was able to re-create the event today...drove into work and left the car running for 3-5 minutes in my parking spot and the temp rose up to 204 again before shutting it down. The fans aren't turning on either, so I'm guessing I have a buggy tune

Assuming you adopted a cooler thermostat. I'd check coolant level to. Some have found they have to over filling the tank to purge trapped air.

I'm pretty certain that Scott doesn't have a 160/170 t-stat; his is factory.

With a factory thermostat the fans will not begin to come on until around 212 degrees. They will not come on fully until an even higher temp with the factory thermostat. Since you are running a factory thermostat this is perfectly normal.

what is the normal factory range of engine temperature?

1.The fans will not come on until around 212 degree with totally factory vehicle with non tuned ECU ? (with factory thermostat)
if it is true  206degree is not a harmful condition

2.But if the fans will not come on until 212 degree with factory thermostat with only LMS V8 tune    it is a problem!
(if 2 is true  LMS must notify that using factory thermostat with V8 tune may cause serious engine problem)
which one is correct?

On their tuning order page :http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/products/AIW-2013-Taurus-SHO-MyCalibr8or-Tuning-Device.html] http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/products/AIW-2013-Taurus-SHO-MyCalibr8or-Tuning-Device.html

...LMS does recommend cooler T-stat... and the tune is modified for earlier fan turn on too... I have tested in mine.  They state:
"**For maximum performance and the best drive-ability, Livernois Motorsports highly recommends the use of our EvenFlo 160* thermostat with the purchase of all MyCal tunes.**

*You can add a thermostat to this order with no extra shipping charge.*

*We highly recommend our pre-gapped spark plugs for any performance tune.*"

and the go on to say....

"Any unforeseen damage that may happen to the vehicle will not be covered or guaranteed by AIW or Livernois Motorsports in any way. If anything doesn't feel normal after loading a tune, it is the customer’s responsibility to immediately return the tune to stock, and notify Livernois Motorsports immediately."

What more should they say?
If you simply tell LMS up front (they do ask on the order page) for mods such as t-stat, or follow their instructions and call them they will add the modded fan on and off temps.

The cooling fan settings on all of our performance tunes are the same, unless you have a our thermostat, then we modify the fan on/off settings. If you are noticing the fans on less frequently it could be one of two things. In the winter, you were running the defrost, which utilizes the a/c, which turns the fans on, or, by chance, you had a thermostat tune before and didn't have a thermostat (we are human after all). Those are the only 2 items I can think of that would impact the fan on/off temps. 206 is perfectly fine though as far as operating temps. A bone stock car can easily reach 230 from what we have noticed.

I am probably being pedantic, but just to be clear: A thermostat does not control when the fans come on, it only controls the temperature when water leaves the engine block and flows to the radiator.
A couple comments made it sound like this was not the case.

According to Anthony's e-mail my V8 tune is set for a lower T-stat but I haven't gotten around to putting a lower t-stat in. I wa going back and fourth on a 160* or the 170* still. Seems like my SHO is getting quite a bit of heat soak. Runs great but after I run it a few times I can tell it's down on power a tad for awhile to cool back down. Normal LMS ? Any more info on the necessity aftermarket T-stats ? thanks :)

Flip a coin on t stat choice  ... just do it .
You run it hard and NEED a lower temp  t stat.
Heat soak is normal .

We recommend the 160 thermostat. The only reason that we ran the 170 was because at that time it was the coldest T-stat available. We went to our EvenFlo 160 thermostats because we saw a need to lower the operating temperature to help these vehicles perform better and keep the engine temps cooler.

OK I'll call in a bit and get one it's starting to heat up in South TX. Doesn't seem like my fans are running much considering the higher temps and tune for a lower stat while having the stock T-stat in there though ?!

is there a way on these cars to put in a switch to run the fans on command ? I ran a switched ground wire into my ECU on some wire once on my 2000 GT Mustang with 708 whp :)
