So I tuned the SHO yesterday closer to midday cause we were really busy at work and let me tell you how excited I was all day. After I finally uploaded it and pulled it out of the garage at the shop for a little road test, I realized there was a 2inch layer of snow causing slippery roads and slow cars. BUZZKILL!! The tune was in my head all day that I didn't even realize it snowed out lol. Loving Chicago.

Just wanted to share my bummed feelings with you guys lol.

The overall experience first loading that tune priceless to say the least, did you get a 3-bar,160stat or new plugs gapped at 0.30,best of luck to you and enjoy the ride and the tune accompanied by a large grin that comes with it.

Yeah uploading the tune for the first time felt like giving childbirth of power lol. And yes, I bought the map sensor and thermostat from Livernois, Motorcraft plugs gapped at .30, and I already had other goodies. This smile isn't going away! Thanks man

3" of snow today. 4" or so on Sunday. Then they're claiming another 4" or so coming this Tuesday.

Gotta love weather in "CHI-beria".

Meteorological Spring begins this Sunday believe it or not. So eventually warm weather will prevail.

Speaking of loving things, you'll come to love your newly found power. Hang in there (for the warmer months).

They'll be here before you know it. as will your "Perma-Grin".

This year and last year have been ridiculous here Mike. But then again, living here is one of the reasons why I chose a SHO

Completely agree!

Thus the reason why I enjoy navigating the streets in my SHO as well.

Always fun fun fun.

You will enjoy a tune! So did you get a tune specifically for the winter gas? I guess I am just trying to figure out how a tune without sending data logs can be as effective? I wouldn't feel as safe going WOT with it. Maybe the car still adjusts for it somehow?

Run a 91 tune on 93 winter gas, that is a good workaround.

I think there should be a sticky somewhere with this info. Until few days ago before I started tuning with Torrie I wouldn’t have known that weather or winter gas has an effect on the tunes. I always figured even with 93 octane tune the car can adjust between winter/summer gas. It seems to me like people could blow up their cars or something if they plan to run a 93 octane tune as a dd during winter. I think I will save this tune that I have now as its set up for winter gas and just load it every time the temp goes below 40’s. Tuning can be kind of scary the more I learn about it!

Fortunately for you, Ford has built a sturdy PCM to account for variations in environmental conditions and will keep the SHO from self-destructing.  IF you are running the 93 tune, ideally you have 100% ethanol-free gasoline, but it will work fine with winter gas too.  Just be sure to use a brand name, high turnover gas station as your supplier.  You may find with a little experimentation that one brand/gas station works better than others.  Stick with that brand/gas station when you can.

That said, the reason to run the 91 tune with 93 winter gas is to give you that extra margin of safety, kind of like "over-spec'ing" the system.  And also if you travel to areas that don't offer 93 gas.

If your running a 93 tune in the winter your car will suffer somewhat in performance due to the winter blend gas,so essentially 93 octane equals to 91 in the winter.

So you think I should switch to the 91 octane tune till it warms up out here?

Yup.  If you can't get straight 93 gas, I'd highly recommend 91 tune + 93 gas.  If you keep your foot out of it, like Z said, you can keep the 93 tune loaded.

Even with shell 93 cpower its probably not as good as it is during summer time. I would still not take a chance and go to 91 tune for now.

That's good to know, I'll make the switch later on today or tomorrow till the weather is about 40°

Do you think Ford Motor Company offers tunes for different seasons?

Umm no. They don't. And they're equally as safe as an aftermarket tune is, when going WOT.

I routinely go WOT during the Winter months (when road conditions permit) on my DD driven tune file and have experienced ZERO ISSUES.

@ ElvenSho.... We all get the fact that you don't agree with certain vendors who don't care for data logging (& the explanations why have been explained numerous times) versus those vendors who do.....

Please..... Enough already.

All the tunes, offered by all the vendors are safe. Some just utilize different means to obtain an end. Move on already. Geezuz.
