Provide the dealer with the Vin. of your vehicle, which is printed near your name at the beginning of this letter."

NHTSA Action Number: PE16003 Master Cylinder External Leak
SUMMARY:
On May 23, 2016, Ford Motor Company (Ford) submitted a Defect Information Report (DIR) to NHTSA regarding a master cylinder defect that could result in loss of the front brake circuit in approximately 225,012 model year 2013 through 2014 Ford F-150 vehicles equipped with 3.5-liter GTDI engines and built at the Dearborn Truck Plant from August 1, 2013 through August 22, 2014; and the Kansas City Assembly Plant from August 1, 2013 through August 31, 2014 (NHTSA Recall #16V-345, Ford Recall #16S24). Ford indicated that the rearmost cup seal in the brake master cylinder may roll, resulting in leakage from the brake fluid reservoir to the brake booster. According to Ford's DIR, "Depending on the amount of brake fluid loss from the brake master cylinder into the brake booster, the driver will experience an audible chime, message center alert, red brake warning light in the instrument cluster and may begin to experience a change in brake pedal travel and feel. In the event that a loss of brake fluid is substantial enough to reduce brake function to the front wheels, the driver may experience longer pedal travel, increased pedal effort, and extended stopping distance, increasing the risk of a crash. Full braking function would remain in the rear wheel brake circuit." Ford's recall will replace the master cylinder and, if the master cylinder is leaking, also replace the brake booster. Seventy-three (73) of the complaints received by ODI contained vehicle identification number (VIN) information required to determine date of build and recall applicability. ODI's analysis found that 66 complaints to ODI and 278 complaints to Ford involving vehicles built in the range covered by 16V-345, resulting in an overall complaint rate of 152.9 incidents per 100,000 vehicles. Twelve (12) crash incidents were reported, including 11 with VIN information. All 11 crash incidents with VIN information reported involve vehicles covered by Ford's recall. ODI's analysis identified 7 ODI complaints and 36 Ford complaints in the 194,139 subject vehicles built outside of the build range for 16V-345, resulting in a complaint rate of 22.1 incidents per 100,000 vehicles. Ford indicated that warranty return analyses identified issues with minor internal leakage between circuits due to internal contamination caused by supplier assembly plant cleanliness concerns in these vehicles. Ford assessed the internal leak condition as an early-life condition with minimal safety risk that does not result in loss of fluid or circuit failure. ODI will continue to monitor complaints in subject vehicles not included in 16V-345. No complaints have been identified in MY 2013 through 2014 Ford F-150 vehicles equipped with other engine options. The recall action initiated by the manufacturer appears to address the safety risks identified by this investigation. This preliminary evaluation is closed. FORD RECALLS F-150, F-650 AND F-750 TRUCKS IN 3 RECALLS

September 27, 2017 — Ford is having truck problems, enough problems to cause the automaker to issue three recalls for three separate problems. Z  :(

However, the combined number of recalled trucks is only about 780, with the majority of the trucks recalled to fix problems that could cause the seat belts to fail in a crash.

Ford F-150 and Super Duty

About 624 model year 2017 Ford F-150 and Super Duty trucks have weld problems that can affect the seat belt buckle attachment brackets on the front passenger seats. Ford says there is a seat track for the manual passenger seat, and insufficient welds may exist between the seat belt anchor and the frame for the seat cushion.

If the welding job isn't strong enough, the seat belt buckle may not hold the passenger in a crash. A passenger flying loose in a crash could be a disaster, but the automaker says it doesn't know of any injuries or crashes related to the bad welds.

About 504 trucks are in the U.S., 63 are in Mexico and the remaining 57 are in Canada, but no matter where the trucks are located, Ford dealers will need to replace the front passenger seat tracks.

Ford F-150 truck owners with questions should call 866-436-7332 and ask about recall number 17C17.

Ford F-650 and F-750

Tie-rod issues have caused Ford to recall 77 model year 2015 F-650 and F-750 trucks with parts that weren't torqued to minimum specifications.

The automaker says the nuts and cotter pins on the front axle tie-rod may not have been tightened to specification. A loose tie-rod can disconnect from the steering system and send the truck out of control because the driver will lose the ability to steer.

Ford recalls trucks to fix door latches that can freeze and fail to open

October 18, 2017 — Ford F-150
door latch problems have caused the automaker to recall more than 1.3 million 2015-2017 Ford F-150 and 2017 Super Duty trucks after years of complaints about door latches freezing, causing the doors to open while driving.

In addition, the door latches could fail and leave customers unable to open the doors.  Z

FORD RECALLS 2017 F-150 OVER TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS

October 26, 2017The same day Ford recalled 15,000 model year 2018 F-150 trucks for problems related to gear shift levers, the automaker also announced a recall of 15,000 model year 2017 F-150s for their own shift lever problems.

The 2017 trucks are equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions that can remain in gear no matter where the gear shift lever is positioned. Ford says a pin that attaches the transmission shift linkage to the transmission can come out, leaving the shift lever unable to change gears.

The shift lever indicator may display the wrong information and the key can be removed even if the truck is not in PARK. This will cause a warning chime and a message in the instrument cluster, but the truck won't start if the transmission is not in NEUTRAL or PARK.

Then there is the very real problem of the truck rolling away if a driver doesn't apply the parking brake. However, Ford doesn't know of any reported crashes or injuries related to the transmission problems.

The automaker says some of the F-150 trucks were built in Kansas City between September 2016 and August 2017, while the remaining trucks were built in Michigan between August 2016 and July 2017.

About 11,783 of the recalled trucks are in the U.S., 3,169 are in Canada and 701 are in Mexico.

Ford dealers will remove the roll pins and replace them with updated parts, but for now F-150 owners should make sure the parking brakes are applied at all times when the trucks are parked.

There has been no recall date announced, but concerned truck owners may call Ford at 866-436-7332 and refer to recall number 17S36.  Z

SSM 46896 – 2018 F-150 – 2.7L Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDI)/3.5L GTDI – Transport Mode

It is important to keep 2018 F-150 vehicles equipped with a 2.7L GTDI or 3.5L GTDI engine in Transport Mode until the vehicle is being prepared for customer delivery.

Transport mode reduces battery drain during extended periods when the vehicle is not in use and contains an alternate calibration that reduces the chance of spark plug fouling during engine idle and or frequent engine start and stop events when engine does not read normal operating temperature.

Ford recalls 350,000 trucks, SUVs for transmission issue.
The vehicles could roll when put into park.

The recall includes the latest versions of the F-150 and Expedition.

Ford is issuing two separate safety recalls to fix mechanical issues affecting control of the transmissions on certain 2017 and 2018 models. The automaker says it's aware of one reported accident with an injury related to the the first and largest recall.

That safety recall affects nearly 350,000 pickups and SUVs from the 2018 model year to fix a potentially unseated gear shift cable locking clip that could leave the transmission in a gear state different from what the driver selects — meaning the vehicle could move even when placed in park, if the parking brake isn't activated, with no warning message on the instrument panel or warning chime when the driver-side door is opened. The recall affects 2018 F-150, F-650 and F-750 trucks and 2018 Expeditions equipped with six- and 10-speed automatic transmissions.

Dealers will inspect the vehicles to ensure that the shift cable locking clip was properly installed and will secure the locking clip at no charge to the customer if it was not.
The recall reference number is 18S10.
The affected vehicles are:
2018 Ford F-150 trucks built at Dearborn Assembly Plant between Jan. 5, 2017, and Feb. 16, 2018
2018 Ford F-150s built at Kansas City Assembly Plant between Jan. 25, 2017, and Feb. 16, 2018
2018 Ford Expedition SUVs built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from April 3, 2017, to Jan. 30, 2018
2018 Ford F-650 and F-750 medium-duty commercial trucks built at Ohio Assembly Plant between April 25, 2017, and March 9, 2018
The second recall targets 161 F-150s and Expeditions, Lincoln Navigators and Ford Mustangs equipped with 10R80 transmissions that may be missing a roll pin that attaches the park pawl rod guide clip to the transmission case. If missing, the 10-speed transmission over time could lose park function even when the instrument panel display and shifter show the vehicle is in park mode and without warning message or door chime. Ford says it knows of no injuries or accidents related to this problem.

Dealers will inspect recalled vehicles and make repairs free of charge. The reference number is 18S09.
The affected vehicles are:
2017-2018 Ford F-150 trucks built at Dearborn Assembly between Oct. 20, 2016, and March 5, 2018
2017-2018 F-150s built at Kansas City Assembly from Dec. 22, 2017, to Feb. 26, 2018
2018 Expeditions made at Kentucky Truck Plant from Nov. 28, 2017, to Feb. 14, 2018
2018 Mustangs built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant from Nov. 6, 2017, to Feb. 12, 2018
2018 Navigators built at Kentucky Truck from Dec. 13, 2017 to March 8, 2018
