Ford issues new recalls

Advisor wasn't sure. Said he thought it was some number on the shaft that would tell them what batch it was produced from.

It was after hours when I picked her up as I work the same hours as them. ;)

Love how service advisors can't even read. No where in the information provided to dealers does it list a anything to do with numbers.  It has to do with a circlip not being fully seated during assembly. Oddly enough vehicles from more than one assembly plant are affected.

Just got back from the dealer. Took 10 minutes. I was with the tech when he did it. There is no part number checking involved. He showed me the recall document and it has pics with the defective shafts. Looks like they are slid away from the support bearing by .2"-.3" (or more) somewhere in there. He then used a prybar and made sure mine would not slide. No sliding. He said he has checked four or five so far with zero defective found.

Ugh, dealers are incompetent fools. Looks like I have to make another appointment. I'm still waiting for my revised license plate lamp assembly too.

Some dealers are. Others are quite competant and do everything possible to help their guests. Please remember some here work for dealerships or have loved ones that do. These folks also provide useful info to the forum when needed. My plate lamp is back ordered also. It happens during recalls.

Let me re-phrase, In the majority of my personal experiences with dealerships, I've dealt with nothing but incompetent fools. I will however never name dealerships unless asked via PM.

This make more sense to me. Have never noticed a serialized number on shafts before. :)

I just called my local dealership, and confirmed that there is a recall on the license plate light assembly, and I was told "these are on backorder until August 1st, please call back then so we can get you an appointment to get this repaired"  My plate lights don't even light up anymore... so if I get pulled over for it.... I wonder if Ford will pay for my ticket?

Apparently the reason for the license plate assembly recall is that it's a fire hazard due to rusting within the stock unit. That sucks that your's appears to be one that is actually exhibiting symptoms of failure.

I went to replace the bulbs with LED ones, and when I opened it up, the piece of metal that the bulb rests in was broken off inside.... I just thought I needed to buy new ones until I got on here today and saw there was a recall.  This time I am happy there is a recall that way I don't have to pay to have it fixed.

Just received recall notice in the mail for my 1996 explorer for a speed control deactivation switch fire, which of course they will repair it for free at any Ford dealer, wish i received notices in the mail for the SHO,instead of me having to do the research, some members mentioned the recall on the rear plate bulb assembly which i did about 3 weeks ago, they just had to order the part, recall safety issues are always performed for free at any Ford Dealer of your choosing.no matter how old your vehicle is,for instance my 96 explorer lol

What's the recall number on the one you just received?  You will get mail notices on the SHO but that's not scheduled for owner notification until the end of August. Chances are the one you received in the mail was issued a while ago as well. If you give me the number I can check.

My car went to the dealer today and they called me and said that my half shaft was experiencing the symptoms of starting to come out and will have the part tomorrow then I asked if I can pick it back up tonight and drop back off tomorrow.. they said it was ok

Demand a rental.  Ford will pay the bill.  Just need your service guy to ask Ford to authorize it.  They will definitely do it for something as major as this

Had mine checked about less than a month ago and turned out o.k,but the past few months now i have DTC code C1B00 code on my cal tuner which is related to the steering and front end,so the best way to tell if your halfshaft needs replacing would be in my opinion to have a code set and then produce the DTC code C1B00 and show it to your service advisor or shop forman, hope this helps.

Interesting, I have had that one come up a few times. Steering angle sensor. I always assumed it's because I have the H&Rs. It comes and goes on it's own.
