Getting ready to data log.

Hey guys, finally ready to do some data logging for Torrie.
I'm running about an 18% e85 blend with 93.
I don't necessarily want an e85 tune.
But I have noticed that my kr is virtually non existent with this particular blend.

So should I wait to refill with straight 93 before I log?
Any input is greatly appreciated.

Do you plan on always running that blend?  If so then log away - if not I would stick with just 93 and send those logs to Torrie.  Otherwise you might end up with a little too much advance/boost for the times you do run just 93.

I do try to always run that blend, but I'm sure there will be a time that it won't be available.

Actually, I try to use the same gas station all the time for consistency.

Ask Torrie how much E his tunes can generally tolerate before having to be retuned.  Should be able to give you a ballpark figure.

I just got an E20 tune...it definitely has more power than the 93.

You should log for whatever you plan to run.

You get up to 3 tunes so I'd have him whip you up an E-20 to go with.

Running a little E on a 93 tune should be fine but I wouldn't do the opposite.

Does everyone here log? When I get my car back I'm planning on loading LMS's 4+X. Also what are the differences between the 4+ and 4+X tunes and am I really in for a noticeable difference? Should I log.? It honestly looks like a bunch of numbers to me.

I'm not sure if Lms customers data log. Lms will not adjust tunes unless it's for turbos , meth, downpipes.
That one of the differences with Torrie (unleashed) he will custom tune YOUR vehicle.

here's a few logs if anyone wants to check them out
They both look great to me.  You certainly don't have any problems with knock - he could probably push it a little bit more if you keep running that mix.  Like FoMoCoSHO said just run the tune with the specified octane and you should be good.

I'm a LMS customer and I log all the time.  That said I would venture most do not actually log although quite a few seem to run Torque or some other app for gauges so they can see what is going on.  Logging is more granular.  Both tuners are great and they do seem to have different approaches from what I've seen.  Torrie seems to like more boost where as LMS likes timing.  That said that is only a cursory observation.  As other have said these cars are operated by achieving targeted/required torque levels so I'm sure it's complicated. :)

Personally if I had E available and the fuel headroom, I'd run an E tune.

That being said, make sure you are logging for the specific fuel you plan to run with each tune.

I have both a 93 and E20 tune.

I also plan to get a 91 tune in case i drive somewhere lacking 93.

3rd gear seems to be the most taxing fuel wise so I'd want as much of third in the run as possible, especially for an E tune.

If you have corn in the tank most of the time, you're leaving some power on the table not having a specific tune.

Consider that in the time it takes to fill your tank, you can reflash for whatever situation you are presented if you have the right tunes on your device. I keep my x4 and 2bar in the car in case I can't get e for some reason or I have a failure and need to return the car to stock before the tow truck shows up.

Since you normally have E in the car, I'd get that E tune, datalog it in different conditions, especially when its cold, and get it dialed in. You don't have to be perfect on your blend, the trims will handle minor inconsistencies.

Good info. Thank you.
I do keep E 20ish in the tank at all times.
I'll sent Torrie these logs and have him adjust for an E20 tune since I already logged for it.

When I asked torrie about ethanol he told me not to run any with my 93 tune, i did anyways and the car did not run right after few wot pulls. Are u running ur 93 octane tune with the ethanol? Maybe your tune is not as aggressive as mine. (Dis about 15 logs and changes made)

yes approx e20 with my 93 tune. Been doing this for about 1 1/2 years without issue. But it is the standard 93 , boost , firm shift tune. I have not data logged until now.

Gotcha! Well good luck with data logging, I can tell you one thing, its a pain in the ass because if you want to perfect the tune you will need to do many and I mean MANY logs, I got 15 and I need to do more but should be close to perfect soon lol.

EDIT: The good news is there is plenty of power to be had with data logging.I noticed a big difference between just the base boost tune and after first few data logs. Every change he makes the car feels better/smoother/faster.

After 15 revisions that tune is probably pretty hot and dialed in perfectly for 93 and may not tolerate any fuel pressure hit.
