Getting a need mental break fom work.  Very good friend of mine and I are heading out to Detriot Friday.  We will be doing the FORD museum tour, then the FORD truck factory tour, I'm really looking foward to that.  Sunday will be the car show.  I've never been to a major show, so this will be a treat.

I'm jealous.  Have a great time!  Don't forget to post pictures!

A couple of my friends are going to the charity preview Friday night.  I have been to the charity preview a few times and it is the only way to see the show.  So much more access than the public event.  Our source for free tickets to the preview has faded and I just can't see spending that kind of money for the auto show, even if it is for a good cause.

I'm hoping to get to talk to some FORD people.  I know its a long shot, but Im going to give it a try, have couple questions for them.

Going to the Charity event tonight.  Can't wait to see the new aluminum 2015 F150 and what's going on with the SHO.  Gonna hit em up to see if they are building an EcoBoost Raptor based on the new awesome F150 body.  My 11 has the 6.2 but I would have gone the EB route in a second had the engine been available in the Raptor.  Mine has a 6.2L (all 11's do)....gobs of power/torque, but the Prius drivers just look at me in total disgust...I just taunt or ignore them depending on my mood....Re: mpg, with some specialty vehicles with big power, when it gets to 1/4 tank, you just fill it up and go.  Having said that, if I could get comparable torque, performance AND get better mpg with an EB, who would turn that down?  Will post up some pics if I have time to take em.

Enjoy the event, and YES! Please do post up some pics and report back as to w/e you end up finding out (if anything) on any of the newest model offerings from FMC, no matter the platform!

Thanks! :thankyou:

I am taking the day off and  going with my son (no school because of MLK Day) Monday.....with the rest of the peasants....No preview tickets for us .....LOL.....

It will probably be a madhouse on Monday.  Hope you have a little space to move around.

Actually we go every year on MLK day.  For some reason its not busy on that day and it's easier to get in and out of Detroit because there are no school buses running, no mail trucks, and no government workers. We usually get there right when the doors open and head out mid afternoon.

Not many pics, not great pics, but here they are in a couple of posts...

Car show was great as always, but too many cars, too many people, too little time, too much bubbly and you get what you get....  Some of the highlights were the robot display in the Ford section, and, my wife and I were able to get right up near Alan Mulally, but weren't able to talk to him or get a pic...  So many cling-ons.  A bit of personal trivia...as part of a pretty long career at Boeing, I worked with Mr. Mulally at on the 777 jetliner, met with him numerous times, he is a remarkable guy and part of the reason I now buy Fords.  ANYWAY...  I loved the EB Baja truck and the engine cutaways.....it's always nice to see chains instead of belts driving those camshafts....Sorry the pics weren't better..... last blurry pic I put in just for fun.  Lots of fun, lots of people and my wife LOVED the cars.com display, they were handing out small bags and slippers....which my wife, and i am sure hundreds of the ladies promptly dumped their heels and wore slippers the rest of the night...

As far as G2, no remarkable revelations... I asked about an eco-Raptor with the 2015 body, and the Rep looked at me like I was nutz, so that means something is in the works.  When (if) that happens, the EBPF will get a pretty healthy jolt from a bunch of off road fanatics... my other forum life is spent on the fordraptorforum.  Raptor gets an EB, and the truck tuners and vendors will have a whole new world open up to em.  IJS.

Here is the remaining set....

All in all a fun night spent with wife and friends, the afterparty was great too.  Another highlight was the Vette.  Simply stunning and over the top.

These guys have to keep coming up with stuff year after year to keep their customers interested.  Hats off to them, and hats off to their loyal supporters/critics.

Well day one went better than expected.  We went and did the Rouge Factory tour.  That was awesome, first time to actually see a working assembly line.  Then did the Ford musuem which was impressive.  I saved the best for last,  before we got going this morning,  I googled Livernois and saw how close they were to the hotel and where we going later.  So we drove over and went in, told them we were from PA and where here for the car show.  It got sooo much better, buddy and me got a tour.  We where like two little kids at Christmas,  for me it was awesome.  It was a major thrill.  Can't wait for tomorrow.  :yell:

Well made it back in one piece.  Had an awesome weekend.  Since it was my first time at a major show, I was so impressed.  So down to the news, talk with a FORD Marketing person, about the Taurus redesign.  He hasn't seen anything come down the pipe, he also mentioned that since the redo of the Mustang, F150 and the Edge coming for '15, the Taurus will probably be a '16 redo.  I questioned him about the SHO line, couldn't really say yes or no yet, so guess we will have to wait and see.  The SHO they had there was the Darkside color, not one on my favorite.  Did get to see the 2 of the 2.7 motors, they had the normal show one and the torture test motor. The 2.7 EB is block is made from the same material as the Powerstroke motors. The 2.7 EB motor a canister style oil filter, and a gear driven DI pump, I asked cause I didn't see one in the location as on the 3.5 EB.  Couldn't get any Hp/Trq numbers, oh well.  Learn something new about the 3.5 EB motors, they are sleeved, but the sleeve doesn't go all the way up the cylinder, there is lip at the top so the heads and block mate to the same surface.  Did see alot of engines going to canister type oil filters.  The new F150 looks awesome in person, cant say that about the Mustang, but that's my opinion.  Will get pics up, I need to resize them to post them.  Wish I had better news about the Taurus and SHO.
