Help removing spark plug

So i pulled the first coil and it's not giving me access to the spark plug.  I pull the boot and there's a small spring on top of where the spark plug would be.  What am i doing wrong here?

This is what it looks like when I pull out the coil.

I think that's  part of the coil on plug assembly. Was it pretty hard to pull off ?

Try to twist/rotate  the coil assembly while your removing.

You may have destroyed that coil. Not positive though.

It was on there pretty snug, but it popped off.  I tried taking off another one and it did the same thing.  So now i've got two destroyed coils?

That's tjust the coil boot with the spring. The coil isn't ruined but you can surely buy another boot at orielly's for like $3 I just did it for two of my coils

Ok good... so i haven't destroyed the whole coil.  I can deal with some $3 parts.

Now i just need to get these damn boots off the spark plugs. Any tips?  Just yank with needle nose pliers?

Same thing happened to me.  Long needle nose pliers did the trick. Look through the how to's. There one about plug replacement and I added some pics from when I had that issue.

Got the boots off with the needle nose pliers.  I don't know what i'd do without this place and you guys.  Thanks again.

Off to Ford tomorrow morning!

Great to hear the good news,it happens to the best of us,were you able to find it intact,(any rips, tears on the boots)BTW next time use a very small amount of dielectric grease in the bottom portion of the boot facing the spark plugs and keep us updated.  Z

The first one i ripped a little bit.  The second one game out in one piece without any rips, but the spring is no longer attached to whatever it should be attached to.  That fell off both boots.

And already had the dialectric grease ready to go.  Most definitely going to grease up after dealing with this once.

Just pulled a coil to SHO what it's supposed to look like.

I would make certain there nothing leftover inside the spark plug wells, try grabbing a fashlight and a magnet to check for those springs.  Z

I found both springs, so they're safe.  I'm also going to blow some compressed air before pulling the spark plugs.  Nothing falling into those heads.

For a simple spark plug job, this is really turning into a real pain.

I got the next 3 out with the boot not falling off.  Now I'm stuck on the rear drivers side plug.  The boot fell off and i can not get enough leverage to get my needle nose pliers back there.  The boots stuck in there and it's not coming out.

Remove the nut that holds the cross pipe over the top of the engine from turbo to turbo.

Then loosen the hose clamp that from that pipe to  The rubber hose and remove the hose from the plastic

. This will let you slightly raise the cross pipe without removing it. You'll also have to unplug your blow off valve to relieve stress on the wiring harness.

Plug swap on a transverse engine = sucks ass!

Also try removing the strut tower brace.  That'll free up some space.

i removed everything including the strut bar and it's still stuck in there.  This is getting really frustrating.  It's such a tough angle.  All im getting is the top of the spark plug with the pliers or breaking off tiny pieces of the rubber boot.  It's stuck in there real good and i think im only making it worse.

EDIT:  GOT THAT MF'ER.  What a relief!!
