HID Headlights Quesiton/Concern

Okay, I'm new to the sight and new to the HID headlight game. I have a 2010 SHO and the driver's side light has a strange projection. Looks like either the bulb is going bad or the projector is messed up. Has anyone seen this type of thing before. All inputs are welcome.
Thanks,
Chuck

2010 doesn't have HID unless it is aftermarket  ... I suspect you have projector beam assy damage or it is WAY out of adjustment .
2013+ have HID .

Well that's actually good news because HID lights are expensive.  I haven't taken it apart yet to see whats up--a little cold these days.  That helps a lot.

If indeed HID, probably not rotated properly into the socket (upside down as a result).  Are you using a 9006 bulb in a 9012 socket, for example?  The tabs have to be trimmed to fit properly.

I guess I need to pull out the bulbs and find out the situation.  Just wanted some info from other owners before I started tearing into the car.  Thanks.

Well I pulled the dust covers and they are HID D3S bulbs.  Any ideas why the driver's side is projecting so strange?

Also to double checked they are not aftermarket. I went to the Ford Parts website and looked up my VIN.  They are definitely OEM.

One other thing to consider... Is it on both hi and low beams.  Ford uses a shutter to block part of the beam to make the lows... there could be a problem there causing a kind of rotated cutoff of the beam.

Actually, you are incorrect, the SHO does have HID lights in 2010...only those delivered to Canada did not have HID's.

OEM was HID in 2010, I believe it was the only Taurus model that did come with HID...however, the Limited may have also had HID, but since I never considered a Limited, I am not 100% sure of that.

OOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSS! ! !

No worries on the HID or not.  I pulled it apart as far as my comfort would let me and I can't find anything wrong.  I'll probably have to remove the assembly and take a better look.  Oh well.  At least I had an excuse to put a K&N filter in today--stock air cleaner was filthy.  Thanks for all the inputs.

If you have the owners manual pages 65-66 explain how to aim the headlamps.
Here is the vertical adjustment screw.
Try turning to see if it helps at all.

Good luck!  You have to take the whole front bumper off to remove the headlight housings  :boom:

Looking at your pic I don't see a cut off on the drivers lamp.  What's on the driver's side looks to be spill over from the passenger light.  Put a heavy towel over your passenger's light and take another picture.  Also try going from high to low beam.  I bet you won't see a difference since it looks like your shutter is stuck open.

There's something else wrong but that's somewhere to start.

Yeah that was the first thing i did was try to adjust the light but it didnt help.  I think there is a problem, as suggested, with the shutter.  I'll do the towel thing and post another pic tonight.  Again, thanks to all for the inputs.

I agree it looks like maybe your passenger side high beam shutter is stuck up leaving more of the bulb or reflective housing exposed all the time so it looks bighter, or allows the upward light (high beams) out.

have someone else go back and fourth between high / low beam and listen for the high beam shutter clunking in that headlight.
