Hood Concept

I went by and saw the Hot Rod shop and let me just say; HOLY :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

I am pretty confident with these guys--and with that said I have a new idea. I'm trying to venture out into the unknown, if you know what I mean.

Factory hood: $500 discount OEM
GT500 vents: $78 discount OEM
GT vents (like bpd): $270 discount OEM

I am thinking about talking with the hot rod shop to do this and mold this vent into my factory hood. If it's screwed up or doesn't look right; I figure I can just buy a new hood and paint it.

Thoughts?

Not a bad idea in theory.

However, i've seen those GT500 hood vents in person, and I think your biggest concern in actually using them would be the depth of the louver itself, in relation to whatever available clearances you have underneath the hood in that location.

Yeah, I just thought about that.

I think where it would end up would be right over the engine cover and we all know that's pretty cramped.

MM; I don't know--I'm looking at photos of the vent and they are not that deep.

GRR, I'm just going to buy one--if it doesn't work, I'll send it back.

The other concern would be can you cut the hood and still maintain structural support of the hood?

In all honestly; I'm starting to lean towards not doing it.

For couple reasons; biggest being the way the 2013 hood is now--not a lot of room for anything.

I'd still like to find a cowl that would go with our lines and mold it in.  Have it rise another level like the old Cobra hoods.

OK; I got sizes on vents and made "templates".

The only big concern I have is on 2013 hood; there are two risers for cowl--in between those two risers is an indention that runs from back to front. Those with 2013 know exactly what I'm talking about; hard as hell to see on my car, especially in a parking garage. I am concerned if I can get the vents there without the indention causing a problem.

I kinda like the narrow but I don't know -- seems like a whole lot of hood space.

You're talking about the vent that goes parallel to the the front of the car and not the GT mustang vents like bpd has?

Correct, I work on them every day. I know the difference between a GT500 and a GT. But what I meant to say there are not very deep at all, and if I were to guess its not much more than a inch. My only concern is how it will look being a flush mount, as the GT500 hood is recessed.
But I am a paint guy so I am not sure what a body shop could do.

I was thinking that same thing; don't know if the hot rod shop can recess it.

Um... I am up in the air on. You seem to handy with photoshop perhaps you can photo shop one one your car? But actually I've been envisioning a Super snake hood on your car.

Also after studying the 2013 hood you might still be able to do GT hood vents, I think GT500 vent would require a lot more work. I could trace you some templates of the GT vents so you could lay out on your car. Another option that custom shop can do is punch louvers into your hood.

I wish I could do super snake hood; I thought about asking the hot rod shop if they could do something crazy like that.

I looked up my hood on Fred Beans parts; its like $570 bucks brand new. For that kind of money, I would buy a second one and let them go to town on it. Since it wouldn't be any more than buying a fiberglass hood. I know one for my old super duty cost me nearly $1400 bucks!

I thought some kind of cool ram air intake type setup would look sick.

BPD's vents are the truth!

I don't think you can go wrong with that set up.

Can't wait till a vender starts making a "quality" fiberglass hood with with some vents.

I'd pay big bucks for it, if it also dosen't drain water in the engine bay.

I ordered a second hood.

We will see what happens.

My buddies at hit rod shop are itching to have some fun with it. We will see what happens in a few weeks or months.
