Leaky PTU and result.

At the beginning of last week I thought I may have an exhaust leak, so I decided to take a good look. While under the car I noticed that the PTU was leaking a bit from the vent. So I took it in and they swapped out the fluid and did the TSB on the vent. What is interesting is that I monitor the PTU temp (mine has liquid cooling) through torque. I started to notice that the temp is effecting much more now. It used to lag way behind the trans temp. I can actually see the temp cool at a light and go up at highway speeds. I am guessing that this was due to the low fluid in the unit. The moral of the story. Check your PTU for leaking. Mine was just in for an oil change about 4 weeks ago and they said nada. The temp gauge has been acting like this since last year. So its been down on fluid for a while. Just some food for thought.

Great advice...but if trusting your Ford mechanic you may not ever know.

I can see where mine pushed fluid out and when asking the mechanic if he saw anything wrong with it...he said no. I asked, no leaking....nope was the response. In front of service writer I tell him it's got fluid on it and I have pictures from yesterday when I was under it. This got blank stares. Then I asked since they were keeping it, if they'd perform the TSB for it and the rear diff....blank stares were common with long silent moments. Never performed TSB'S and requested wrong parts for rear shock fix so I just grabbed the keys and left...fast.

Romeo Ford gets a thumbs down...less than a half mile from my house too :(

Wow Rich brutal. This seems par for the course though. I brought in our 11 Explorer and I said that I noticed a lot of oil in the intake pipe when changing the air filter. I left the truck there for another issue. When I picked it up I asked the service advisor if they had ordered the parts for the TSB. He no they found no oil in the intake pipe. They said no,?? I had to take the manager out to the truck in the parking lot with a screwdriver took the intake off and said really? Did your tech even look at it?? How about no....
