Lowering Spring

Hey guys,

I am thinking about lowering spring being my next mods to my SHO. A buddy of mine can do them for $765 installed and aligned.

Just wanted to hear from those of you that have them, how do you like them? Do you recommend them?

Those that have thought about doing it but decided not to, why did you not? Draw backs?

I ordered mine Sunday night, they should be here Friday.
I've done many cars in the past so I know what to expect although I hear the front is a bit more involved. There is a thread in the "How-to" section, I believe, on doing it yourself.

I can tell you that $765 seems very expensive. Some guys had them done for $500-600 aligned....

I will be doing mine on my own. Should take about 4-5 hours with a buddy to help...
 
Well...I guess that's subjective. But, I consider it easy. I've done a few cars. My last was the worst. But still wouldn't consider it worth anywhere near 765 bucks. It's not too challenging, even for a novice. Just need the right tools and a little bit of time.
If you have the tools, or have access to some, think about it. Plus, if you're new to wrenching, you'll expand your horizon. :)
 
I hope thats including parts and labor correct,or i hope so,1)they look great on there,2)probably see a slightly better ET,3)Drawback are a slight chance of the front wheels rubbing over harsh bumps,BTY the megan coilovers should hopfully be out soon and something to take into consideration.Z
 
That price is real high...

Other than that, hell yeah go for it!

I just went from an Eibach lowered SHO to stock and I seriously miss my springs.

My Eibachs didn't rub even with two passengers in the back seat and a trunk full of luggage.

Eibachs are no longer made but I still see a set now and then.
 
If you haven't really wrenched on your car before, best to find a buddy that has, and get it done together.  Safety first.

They did not rub because you did not have the PP,LOL and another note is being that the H&R are lower than the Eibach makes them more susceptible to rubbing,especially the front over harsh bumps.Z

While I don't disagree, I don't think it's essential. I've done 100 percent of my auto work independently (alone). Even from the beginning. And I've done a number of invasive jobs which took many hours to complete.
If you have a car hoisted, it's certainly good to have somebody else keeping an eye out for you, that's for sure.
Just use appropriate PPE, conduct correct behavior and composure (fatigue, complacency, frustration, etc.) and you'll be right as rain!

x2. I wouldn't pick this car as your first car to start your wrenching career.  I have done maybe 4 spring jobs over years. That being said this job especially 13+ SHO are very straight forward and the How To's make it easy.

I have a 15 PP and i want to lower the rear alittle to even out the stance. Is this possible? I dont mind how the front sits.just the rears to high

It may be possible to cut the rear spring but I wouldn't recommend it. Some have done it....
My suggestion is to just buy the H&R Springs and do front and rear. I just did all 4 this past Saturday and it was very easy. Rear take maybe an hour...
 
How much does the alignment change after the springs are installed? I don't really have a trusted shop to do the alignment  where I live.
 
I have an appt for Thurs at the Ford dealer. I plan to ask the tech for the alignment sheets and I'll pay them here. I can tell the rear are pretty bad. ...

Preferably at your local ford dealer? Lol...z u should be on a commercial for ford lol...most auto care shops that do alignments have the computer alignment machines so I would go to any of the places that have hunter machines...

And when I had the ford dealer mount my gt500 wheels I almost cried watching them use pry bars mounting the tires ....I should've just went to where I always go.a custom wheel shop that has a touchless machine that mounts 30" wheels that cost 30 grand...but I thought the dealer would be a safe bet....again I was shown that the dealers are not much better than your run of the mill mechanic

AJP if you approaced them a little nicer rather than portraying yourself like a wanabe narcissist maybe they would of been more gentle,lol. Z

Believe it or not I'm very nice to people until they make mistakes and don't want or think they need to make it right....I actually come off nervous and timid when it comes to people working on my cars lol and it shows....they didn't mess up the wheels just just gouged the inner part in places which I didn't care because it's under the tire
