Muffler Delete

Has anyone deleted their rear mufflers? Just the two back ones. I saw a video on youtube of one revving but no in for shots. This seems like a good option to me because of the very low cost of cutting the mufflers off and sticking a straight pipe in their place. Just wanted to ask someone how they are on the highway, drone, etc.

I did it. Had it that way for an out 50 thousand miles.  I had an x pipe put in place of the third cat and I put two glasspacks right after the x pipe.  It sounded great! I put mufflers back in last week though cause I plan to trade the SHO for a new stang this fall and will get more for it from a dealer if it's quiet again...  it did drone a small amount at 1800 rpm, and was louder with more than one person in the car or when towing.  I loved it though and would do it again.

No, no, n8r, you're going the wrong way!  Supposed to trade a stang for a SHO :D or better yet, have both!

I tried the muffler delete. The drone was ear rupturing. Then I put in a set of pypes m80 ' s. Still terrible drone. Finally had to make a tuned resonator to remove the drone. I can actually drive the car and not want to plug my ears.

A little bit off topic here, the 3rd muffler, resonator is not as restrictive as many might think,i have mine in the garage and you could basically almost see through it.currently with my setup there is zero drone.

Good to know. I was wondering how thick it was. How does the resonator look inside?

Basically the 3rd muffler is a straight through designe and the resonator has a honeycomb filling but not to restrictive compared to others i"v seen, these were the best shots i could take and hope it helps and this is what was removed from vehicle and then replaced with Corsa cat back straight thru exhaust.

Some people have said little drone some more. Anyone have in cabin videos?
I based my decision on the guys that said it didn't drone and I was extremely disappointed. I don't know if these guys know what drone even sounds like. If you can feel the floor vibrate it's drone. Mine was tereible. Drone is hard to distinguish between exhaust sound in a video but I can get you one today or tomorrow.

Anyway you could use the flash on your phone and take a picture of the inside of both ends. One of the cat and one of the resonator. I'd appreciate it! When you get time.

The first is the resonator as you can see a little mesh, honeycomb inside and last is the cat which is straight thru.

I will post a video soon, but the Corsa exhaust have the least ammount of drone due to the chambered mufflers,Magnaflow and Borla use a differnt system known for drown issues.

That'd be great if you could get a video. If I don't go this route. I may just go to an exhaust shop and throw on the dynomax mufflers. Trying to keep a tight budget.

This guy said he ran the delete for a while and the drone wasn't bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8v5Sw_lTX8&list=UU6r8fJRSQ7lgDX0g9O0bEvA

That's one of the reasons I went with exhaust. Funny thing is every person that used to have a muffler delete goes to a muffler of some kind.

You've got it backwards ZSHO, the cat is the one with the honey comb inside, that's the platinum.  The one that's straight through is the stock resonator.

Thank you for the correction, its been a stressful year and also people mention 3rd muffler which is the resonator. LOL.

There's just simply no way that a muffler delete doesn't drone. No way.

In fact, the SHO just isn't a car I can see bumbling around everywhere. It needs to maintain a subtle exhaust note. Something like a stock Nissan VQ would be ideal for me. Very subdued, but excellent sound under load/throttle.
