New Grill

I saw a member from another EB forum did this and it turned out pretty good so I decided to give it a shot. I'm sort of on the fence if I like it or not yet (not 100% finished, still have to try connecting the lower part to the clips of the chrome piece). Maybe I should have gone with a mesh that is less transparent, or maybe I'm just being too picky ???.

Anyways, I can post up more pictures a little later if anyone is interested. Let me know what you think.

Looks great I like it. As to the transparency, you could black out the shiny parts behind the mesh to reduce visibility a bit. Nice job!

Agreed, well worth it :)  Was it tomc's pics that persuaded you?  Would love to see more pics of yours too!

Good Job!! I'm so glad I did this mod. My air intake temps cool down much faster while moving and even faster I noticed with the Airaid kit with a 8'' S&B powerstack filter. Waa!!

Where did you get the grill and SHO emblem?  How-to on the install?  Looks great.

I took the SHO emblems from the rear sides,, because I have the 2013 front fender emblems now, I see no need to display the SHO twice. I used heavy duty 3M tape.

Ahh yes, you are the guy I stole the idea from haha. I can't really see anything behind your grill, how did you do that? Different mesh? Paint everything back there?

Also, how did you connect the mesh? I connected what I could to the clips but there's like 10 of them and the bottom ones are sort of a pain lol.

As to how to do this, you basically (literally) cut the old grill out then stick the new mesh piece in. I tried taking a couple pictures along the way that I will post up if they seem like they would help. As for an easy way to do this (after having done it once) , I really don't have one (maybe Tom does). I basically just took a jigsaw (still can't think of one that would be more efficient) and Dremel and started cutting and grinding away.

If anyone has any(more) questions, I'll try to answer them.

Tucked in the mesh/cut a few slits  which can be tricky..then used 3M heavy duty double sided tape then auto goop...I also used a few small hobby clamps for support  until goop dried. Then get some flat black or plasti dip for the shiny parts/frame.

Ahhh I feel like an idiot now. The double sided tape is what I was missing. Yes the slits were tricky. I was able to push the mesh through the clips but couldn't for the life of me think of a way to hold it on there long enough to put some sealant around it. Duh.

Yeah I was debating whether to paint it or not, and ended up leaving it the way it was because I felt it looked good enough. It did look ok until I scraped it on a few clips and the paint came right off. Now I guess I'll have to tape off the car and paint it on there  :wall:.

Did you ever get a closer look the bottom grill? I think that would really set the front off if we could find an easy(ish) way to get it switched out. I haven't had a chance to look closely at it, yet, so I have no idea what it would take.

I did the bottom the same as I did the top.Used ramps/parking brake, chock wheels. Cut,file, sand, repaint with flat black.Unbolt the under splash shield and reach up and slide mesh in and make your adjustments. This was more of a tricky job and took me twice as long because of the repainting. If you take your time,,it will come out great..Good luck!! 8)

Ohhh ok I see it now. I wasn't even paying attention to it in the picture so I didn't notice it. Looks good! But I think that might be a project for a later date, from the sounds of it lol.
