New to tuning

A similar big price differential happened in Iowa  at Murphy in Mason City this past summer.  91 was 11 cents higher than 89 (still available at that time) and 93 was like another 60 cents higher.  I was using 91!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Before I headed south, the difference at Murphy was 12 cents between 87 & 91, and 93 was another 10 cents higher.  However, I did see 87 E-10 vs 87 non-ethanol being priced as much as 40 cent difference in another IA town an brand, with E-10 92 octane almost the same price as the non-ethanol 87.

If you really want to save money on fuel. Find  a grocery store  that gives kick backs on fuel for money spent at there store.

I go to kroger her in MI they use a point system but give 2x points on giftcards everynow and then will do 4x points so o buy gift cards for home improvement stores ect.
Basically I always get $1.00 off gas every time I fill up mine and my wifes car. It may seem a little annoying but were usually there every couple days buying food any way .

I have 3 different credit cards that offer 3% off on gas.

Also, at Hy-Vee grocery stores in midwest, they offer cents off at their gas stations and at Casey's if you buy specific products.  Our daughter only buys those products and regularly gets 50 cents  or more off a gallon - up to 20 gal at a time. That promotion is working fantastic for them so I'm sure other stores around the nation will be jumping on this idea.

I run the 87 tune for daily driving but i still put in 89 gas if its cheaper, no harm done as long as you dont run lower octane gas than your tune is set up for

any performance gain with 87 tune though? The email I got from LMS made it sound like the 87 and one only changed some basic shift timing

Got an email from lms. They told me  87 and 89 tunes really only change transmission configurations. Not a big difference at all until you get to 91 or 93

Really??? i find that hard to believe that there is no room for improvement from the factory tune. I am sure they made you aware of shift points, and not tapering the boost off before red line

The manual states the car runs better with premium (91 or 93) fuel. That's on the factory tune. Why spend all that money to run it on regular or mid grade?  However I am convinced that mid grade has no real use whatsoever other than the oil companies using it to make more money off people who want better fuel, but don't want to spend the money on premium. Mid grade is a sham. Besides, the car is not reaching its potential on any tune if your running less than premium fuel. If you're concerned about saving money on gas, buy a fusion hybrid!  It's like buying a mustang and bitching that the back seat is too small for your 4 kids.
