Hey everyone. Im Joe. Ive been around the ecoboost since the inception at Ford. I think the original name was Twin Force (but marketing didnt like that). Ive been wanting a SHO for a while and finally bought one. I purchased a 2013 Tuxedo black SHO with a few options, 402A, NAV and multi contour seats. (it was difficult to find one with a PP option so I didnt get that one). I look forward to reading all the info and seeing what people are doing to them since they have been out for a while. cheers!

Joe

Welcome Joe!  I have a fondness for black SHO's.  Sounds like a great find.  Would love to see some pics when you get a chance.

Thank you. I found the best deal in my area. Picked it up for 18K. 70K miles. I will take picks later this weekend and post them. I need to clay bar and wax it for the winter.

Thanks. It started out as a team of engineers, a director and a few mechanics in a room. They brought out a 2009 Taurus body, a V6 (which wasnt directed injected at the time) some turbos, a bunch of piping and someone saying, can we make this work? Once the packaging was able to cram all of that in a FWD type driveline, they came with the direct injection and AWD using the 6F55 trans and a PTU. We started making brackets to make all of this line up and see it would all fit in the body without sheet metal changes. This is also why the SHO was delayed until 2010 instead of 2009. There was more to it to make it all work and it couldnt launch in time. I remember once we had a running driving car made of better production parts, it had a Twin Force engine cover. (I wish I would have kept it). Since this was the time of fuel concerns and all the OEMs were coming up with better and more fuel efficient vehicles, ECO seemed to fit the boot. So the name was dubbed ecoboost by marketing. Also, they found that the packaging could fit in the Flex and Explorer so they added that too. The original car it was meant for was Lincoln but FOrd wanted it for their higher end cars as well.

Also, they had a 4.0 V8 ecoboost for Ford and a 4.4 V8 ecoboost for lincoln trucks but those projects were scrapped. Which was sad. They made great power.

Welcome aboard the E.B.P.F Joe and pic's are certainly a must, lol and glad to have you on board and any questions you may have you can always feel free to ask and be rest assured there is no such thing as a dumb question in these parts of town.  Z  :WELCOME:

I was just thinking yesterday that a 4.0 v8 EB would make a near perfect motor.

My MKS reminds me somewhat of the 1996 Continental my grandfather had with the InTech (32v 4.6).  Where the InTech was far superior was sound.  Once on cam it sounded great.  Like only a v8 can.  My MKS with aftermarket downpipes has the rumble, but will never sound as good.

I would think that a 500hp 4.0 v8 EB in a Lincoln Mark IX built on a Mustang chassis would be quite a winner!

Thanks for the insight, Joe :thumb:  Yeah that TF cover would literally be priceless!  I hope someday soon we will see the 5.0 Ecoboost a reality :D

Its coming... If Ford decides to ditch the supercharger on the GT500. Ive heard a few rumors and a mustang with turbo noises in Dearborn getting on the highway.

Looks like they ditched the supercharger on the gt500 about 3 years ago when they stopped production....and perhaps the turbo mustang you heard rumors of was the ecoboost mustang currently in production ???

Meanwhile, back in the Twin Force R&D lab:

It was definitely a V8. I knew about the 2.3 turbo for a while when they started making it.
