NY STATE SPEED CRACK DOWN

At least NY doesn't have airplanes. They have an airplane in the sky and they clock you from one line to the next, they then radio down to a trooper to pull you over. Of course radar detectors are no help, most of the time, waze doesn't alert you till it's too late.

They use helicopters in rural AZ... No radar until they clock you manually between marks on the highway... Then radar for evidence... Very common.

Geez they have a plane up here in Ontario , not sure where they focus their enforcement but I know a 50km over the speed limit gets your car seized at the roadside pending court date

In AZ legally 10mph over limit is "criminal speeding" and can have the same results plus jail... In practice though, most LEOs don't apply that unless you're really going crazy fast for conditions. They have that discretion here.

We have similar practices here too, we can get away with 25km over the 100km posted speed limit ...sometimes even 30 over is not noticed

LOL.... Yes a posted limit in AZ usually translates into all traffic moving 10-20 mph over that limit... And I admit that I like to drive fast when the road is open. Most surface streets here have 50-55mph traffic...

Why is everyone picking on California? But yes we do have airplanes AND helicopters that enforce speed. Typically on open highways and not within city limits.

Speed becomes a felony 30 mph over posted limit. Normally officers cite you at less than that to avoid the hassle if you are just "cruising". But if driving erratically or racing then thats another story.

We have aircraft enforced speeding and it really pisses me off.....not really where I want my tax money going to....I do inspections on aircraft when they dissaemble components according to the aircrafts maintenance schedule and it ridiculously expensive....

It's really time for the 80 percentile system for speed determination

Ohio uses airplanes! Had a Red Mercedes as a front door last year on I-70 east of Columbus. Thought I was safe with 1/2 mile margin. Saw his brake lights, slowed down, and was shocked when the trooper waved me over as well. Got me for 83 in a 70. So when you see a wide stripe in the emergency lane beware. That's the "markers" the plane uses to clock by.

I have been living in N.Y all my life and surely your not misssing out on anything,(maybe your wheels)lol ,plenty of other places to visit.  Z

i Need to do some research on this, that is pretty interesting... never knew they went that far to identify speeders. I was driving home last night and these cops are literally hiding in the bushes i saw 5 pull overs within 25 mins of driving.

I miss that. I grew up in Chandler and if you weren't going 5 to 10 over, you were a hazard. In OKC people routinely do 5 under the limit... it's very annoying.

I think driving 5 under is more dangerous than 5 over just my 2 cents.
