Plasti dipped

I'm not a huge fan of chrome so I knew that I would be doing some paint work to the SHO when I bought it. I'm also kinda over the completely blacked out look so I decided to do some plasti dipping to see if I would like anthracite as an accent color and I think I do. Now here are the current pics since I've done the wheels and then pulled it off because it looked cheap on them. I've also done the window trim but I think true paint will look better on that. Let me know what you think.

I agree too! Done the same to my car as well.  I just decided to do the emblems as well since I had a hell of a time trying to peel it off clean on the back one.

All of these look great. How are you guys doing this? With the rattle can or the full air sprayer kit?

For me, it has just been a couple rattle cans of matte black.  Been enough even with a couple re-do's.  I've not wanted to invest that much money for a sprayer when I have so little to do.

Is it hard to spray it smooth and even? Most dipped cars I've seen look like crap up close - very blotchy and for lack of a better word clumpy. I've been wanting to play with it but haven't for this reason.

I learned my techniques from watching DipYourCar on YouTube and they helped me out for being a rookie.

Doing the long straight stretches seemed fairly easy for me.  So the window trim, grill surround, and rear chrome strip.  I think they look pretty good.  The only trouble I have is on the emblems on the trunk.  They look pretty crappy (kind of pitted almost) since I had to keep going back to try and get everything covered from every angle.  I haven't bothered to fix it since you cant notice unless you're right up next to it, which is usually only me.  The guys at the dealer said everything looked great and were surprised I did it myself and not professionally or something.  Not sure if going with a gloss over the top of everything could help make it easier or if it shows flaws more.

Here is a picture of my fender emblem.  If you view it closer, hopefully you can get an idea of the surface finish.  This is pretty much what everything looks like except for my emblems.

And as always with plastidip, if you don't like the way it turns out, peel it right back off.

Has anyone tried using 3M wrap to cover their chrome?
Great idea to an extent, durability and how will it sustane to harsh weather is the key,so keep us updated if you decide to install it,and where from the boogie down are you from?and welcome aboard.

Looks great! I did the same to mine

Yummy...deep impact blue.  If I could have found this color I would have gotten it but I found a Ruby red instead.  I'm curious as to why you didn't do the lower chrome accent piece on the front.  I'd consider trying this on my show if I had similar wheels.

Nice job on all of the blackout's posted...they all look sharp!
